Scholars Ent. Ft. Sadat X & The Other Guys - "H.E.R."

Scholars Entertainment has their roots in Canada and is a new crew on the map. They are planning to drop their first release "Maintenance Vol. 1" later this year, and their introductionary single definitely points towards some interesting ish for the winter. "H.E.R." is a well crafted love letter to Hip Hop, and most excitingly marries a fresh Sadat X verse to production by The Other Guys who keeps impressing. Also featuring Taurean MC of The Caravan and D-Sisive.

The Other Guys' is a relatively new duo from the Washington DC area, made-up of Mighty Joe and Isaiah Insanate Mensah. Despite having released the noise making "Joe & Insanate's Excellent LP", the Guys have kept slipping under my radar until my now. Now up to speed with a listen to their new joint, "The Other Album", I'm convinced by their funky mix of live jazz and sample bending boom bap. To spice things up the self-producing group has invited jazz instrumentalists Tony Washington (trumpet), Peter Lewis (trombone), James Morris (Guitar), and Joesph "Mighty Joe" Mytes III on bass guitar, organ and all that good stuff.
