Super talented emcee John Robinson has really made a name for himself by making full-length album collaborations with incredibly ill producer. He made the crazy banging "Who is This Man?" together with DOOM, which happened to be my introduction to the man, and since then he has released an album with one of the most underrated cats in the game - UK producer Lewis Parker, on "International Summers". His latest endeavour is just as exciting as he has crafted an impressive jazz-fusion like hip-hop album with Elementality's PVD who immediatly draws you in. Appropriatly titled "Modern Vintage" the LP sees Robinson effortlessly move through istrumentation arrangements of accoustic basses, scratches, live drums, guitars, keyboards and horns. This should be getting a lot of play, and it's now available to order on CD or 2xLP @ UGHH or for download via iTunes if that's what you prefer. Put on some headphones, lay back comfortably and let the latest single "All Over The World" consume.

JOHN ROBINSON & PVD Ft. Sadat X & ID 4 Windz
I first became aware of John Robinson through his album produced by MF DOOM which straight up blew my socks off, a phenomenon that was furthered through his collaboration with producers Lewis Parker and Kyo Itachi in 2011 and 2013, respectively. Now the highly talented wordsmith is back with another project, this time produced by jazz/fusion/hip-hop composer/drummer/producer PVD whose work with 8tW1 on "Lux DeVille" and recent solo album "Technicolor in Hi-Fi" both were very interesting records. The new album is titled "Modern Vintage" and is set for a June 17 release via Brick Records. The first single "Off The Wall" and now "Two Man Mob" featuring Sadat X and ID 4 Windz is definitely promising good thing so stay tuned...

[EP] LUX DE VILLE - "Live @ The Loft EP"
Elementality comes through with another high quality release, seemingly out of nowhere, as they pack one of the most interesting underground rosters of any label at the moment. If you follow The Lost Tapes you can't have missed out that the duo (then known as 8thW1 & PVD) released the "Lux De Ville" LP, and more recently producer/instrumentalists PVD released his own solo album "Technicolor in Hi-Fi". Shortly after the release of their collaborative LP they rocked a few shows, including a set at the intimate club The LOFT in New Jersey and the recording of that night presented here is very reminiscent of many classic jazz live albums which fit right with their jazz-infused style. Lay back, close your eyes and enjoy this 7 track live EP of Elementality's most laid back act.

[Mixtape] PVD - "Pat Produced This"
Pat Van Dyke, in some circles better known under his producer alias PVD, first came to prominence as one half of Lux DeVille alongside emcee 8thW1, and has since worked with a string of rhymers, evolving his jazz oozing live-instrumentation based sound. Now he got an album with the underrated John Robinson in store, and he just released his own instrumental debut, "Technicolor Hi-Fi" that's already critically acclaimed (in fact it's more of a jazz album than an hip-hop LP, but hey you sure don't see me complaining!)
With all this new music on the horizon it's only right that Elementality Records and PVD have decided to drop a 25 minutes mix for fans, highlighting some of Van Dyke's work that originally led him here. The mix features 12 tracks and is seamlessly mixed by DJ MentPlus. Included are both classic productions and previously unreleased material, making the mix work well both as an introduction to new fans and a welcome satisfaction to those who already follows the man and his music. Enjoy!

Fresh on the heels of PVD's highly recommended new album "Technicolor Hi-Fi", the jazz and hip-hop producer/drummer is now gearing up for a full-length collaboration with the always sharp tongued emcee John Robinson. "Modern Vintage" will be released via Brick Records sometime early next year, so stay tuned for more info as it unfolds. The lead single off the LP is called "Off The Wall" and sounds very, very promising.

[Album] PAT VAN DYKE - "Technicolor Hi-Fi"
The latest release from Elementality sees Pat Van Dyke, producer/drummer of the jazz/hip-hop/fusion duo Lux DeVille, go out on the solo tip with his first full-length entitled "Technicolor Hi-Fi". The instrumental project does a great job of balancing hip-hop rhythms with melodic jazz solos and ensemble sections. On 44 minutes spread out over ten songs, PVD provides a great listening experience with a warmth that'll help you block out the cold winter that's slowly approaching. Featured instrumentalists include such talented musicians as Joshua Davis Barrett (bass; of Q-Tip fame), Jesse Fischer (rhodes & synths; known from Soul Cycle), Jordan Piper (Wurlitzer electric piano), Jordan Scanella (electric bass), and Ben Zeff + Jamieson Ledonio (electric guitars) - look ma, no samples! Peep the music video for the title song up top, stream the complete LP below, and order the limited 2xLP set @ Cotter Records ASAP!

Pat Van Dyke Ft. John Robinson - "The Business Remix"
Smooth jazz vibes are oozing off this exclusive John Robinson assisted remix of Pat Van Dyke single "The Business". You might know Pat Van Dyke as the producer and drummer of the duo Lux DeVille (together with emcee 8thW1) whose music I covered several times on this blog. Now PVD steps to the forefront with the release of his own solo debut called "Technicolor Hi-Fi" that will be released on vinyl and digital by Elementality in conjunction with Cotter Records and Open Crates this December. This particular remix will be included on a limited 45 when you purchase the 2xLP set.
The album is an instrumental effort that gracefully balances between jazz and traditional hip-hop. Along with PVD, who besides the drums and arranging handles instruments such as synths, guitar, and vibes, are pianists Jesse Fischer and Jordan Piper, bassists Josh Davis and Jordan Scanella, plus guitarists Ben Zeff, and Jamieson Ledonio. If you're a fan of Madlib's non-sample based jazz excursions this one comes highly recommended. Also check the first single from the project which is called "Frequency" below and pre-order your copy of the wax @ PVDmusic.com.

[EP] 8thW1 w., PVD - "One Two, Two Old"
Back in Spring sometime, DJ K.O. sent me an advance of the latest addition to the EMPB team which was 8thW1 and PVD. 8th is the Jersey based emcee while PBD is the producer and for me it took a few listens before I started to really realize how well-crafted and uplifting the chemistry between this duo not only resulted in impressive jam sessions, but actually made for great records that incorporated many of the best elements of hip-hop and jazz. Lots of live instruments, lengthy instrumental sections, experimental samples and instrumental melodies. Not to mention 8thW1's smooth life lessons who's a great fit over live drums, blowing trumpets, low-key piano and an occurring vibraphone motif ("Too Old").
The four track EP continues in much the same vein as the earlier songs, with much of the same lengthy instrumental part soothing the listener into a dreamlike state that's both meditative and soothing. Check it out for yourself, and if you missed out on the previous full-length click here.

[Video] 8thW1 & PVD - "Happy"
The smooth jazz-oozing lead single from 8thW1 & PVD's Elementality debut "Lux deVille" which, if for nothing else, you might remember from previous posts on the site. "Happy" might just be my favorite on the entire LP, PVD and 8thW1 displays a great Chemistry and I love the layered use of instrumentals that PVD incorporates here, not least on the extended instrumental outro which is absolutely top class. "Lux deVille" is out on CD and in digital - read more and purchase @ Elementality-

[Album] 8thW1 & PVD - "Lux DeVille"
"Lux DeVille" is the proper debut album from the emcee/producer duo 8thW1 & PVD which is out on May 21 via Elementality Records. 8thW1 has previously released several projects, but this serves as the first time he's hooked up with long-time friend PVD who has produced the entirety of the project. The 11 track set forms a smooth journey through the mind of 8 set over a backdrop of knocking drums and a whole lot of jazz vibes. Elementality has choosen to let fans stream the entire LP in advance via their Soundcloud page, a few days ahead of the CD and digital downloads. Enjoy!
