[Album] DON MIGUEL - "Waiting For Carmine"

Don Miguel is an up and coming producer from New York who just came out with his album "Waiting For Carmine". Consisting of fifteen tracks sporting a vintage NYC hip-hop sound with a lot of mesmerizing piano samples, vocal samples, thumping rhythm tracks and ill turntable work. I came across the LP due to the amazing "Merciless Manuscript" single which features no lesser emcees than Guilty Simpson and Percee P (which I strongly recommend you listen to whether or not you intend to listen through the LP) but as I'm listening to the album now I'm really pleasantly suprised. Other guests include Blacastan, Boldy James, Rapsody, Rashad, Big Remo, ST. 2 Lettaz, and more. Purchase the digital album @ Bandcamp.

[Album] KID TSUNAMI- "The Chase"

Back in June 2013 Australian producer Kid Tsunami released his debut album "The Chase" as a digital download distributed by The Orchard and Fat Beats. CD and vinyl were supposed to follow shortly after but that never came to fruition... until now, as Slice-Of-Spice has gained the rights to release a nice 180 gram 2xLP set. Nostalgic fans of true school boom bap will no doubt love Tsu's sample heavy production and the guest cast which includes some of New York's finest emcees to ever do it. We're talking names like OC, Percee P, Jeru The Damaja, AG, Masta Ace, Kool G Rap, Bahamadia, KRS-One, Pharoahe Monch, and many more. The music is the same as on the original 2013 release (there might be some minor tweaks here and there), but the artwork by Fred Whyte is brand new and is looking a whole lot better, as well as the sequencing which has been switched around to make the LP flow better. The gatefold vinyl of "The Chase" is limited to 500 copies and is available @ Slice Of Spice now.

As nice as the guys at Slice Of Spice are they are also offering up the newly remastered version of the album not only for full streaming but you can also download all of the individual tracks in HQ Mp3 for free. Also check out the "No Guarantees" single which features banging remixes by Diamond D and DJ Bless. TURN IT UP!!

[Album] DUDLEY PERKINS - "Dr. Stokley"

Dudley Perkins, or Declaime as he's also known, has built a fan base on way out there, heavily blazed out funk/hip-hop excursions throughout his career, only rivalled by his girl Georgia Anne Muldrow. When posting Buff1's new album I realized I forgot to post the "Dr. Stokley" stream MMG provided when it dropped a couple of weeks ago, despite having posted several of the singles leading up to it.. So here's my late pass being handed in!

This is a must listen for fans and features production by KanKick, Madlib, Muldrow, with cuts by DJ Romes and maybe most interestingly a brand new guest apperance by Percee P on the strong "Hearing Test". Check out the LP for free, via streaming or follow the link to purchase a copy right from Bandcamp.

DUDLEY PERKINS Ft. PERCEE P - "Hearing Test"

Dudley Perkins has always interested me with his unorthodox style of funky hip-hop infleunced soul. Next week the poetical wordsmith, also known as Declaime, is releasing his first solo album in over four years and with the singles this is shaping up lovely. We've got the Georgia Anne Muldrow produced "Stokley's Cafe", the reunion with the one and only Madlib on "State Of Emergency" and early associate KanKick's Foot Surgery". While all of these three cuts have been solo ventures, the new single is one of the tracks I looked forward to the most reading about the upcoming album; the collaboration with veteran BX super rhymer Percee P. The song is called "Hearing Test" and features both Percee and Dudley going HARD over a suitable rugged hip-hop beat, complete with cuts, again laced by G.A. Muldrow. DON'T SLEEP on this one, as it's both up for free streaming and download! The Mello Music Group LP "Dudley Storkins" lands in stores on both wax, CD and digital on November 29.

Beat Bop Scholar Meets Lord Finesse & Percee P

Producer and hip-hop historian Beat Bop Scholar sat down with D.I.T.C. founder Lord Finesse and The Super Rhyme Inspector Percee P to break down some hip-hop history, talk influences, kick some wicked acapellas and takes a trip down memory lane of their respective careers. This is some amazing footage that's a must see for any true hip-hop head. 30 minutes of hip-hop history right here... Big ups to Beat Bop Scholar and Strictly Cassette.

[Album] Beat Bop Scholar - "Authentic Minded"

Beat Bop Scholar is a young producer from the LA area who recently released his booming debut album "Authentic Minded" on iTunes, and Bandcamp, as well as in physical format (CD). The Scholars' beats are filled with golden age nostalgia; straight up sample based music with soulful loops juxtaposed over tightknit drums that creates a definite head nod factor. Much of the project is instrumental but the few cameos that are spread out over the 13 tracks are all true underground legends. Craig G turns in a stunning performance accompanied by an melancholic accoustic piano which together makes for a really sick cut. The only dissapointment is that Percee P is listed as a feature, though he only does a minor vocal drop introducing the album (see the video above). Still, the cuts with Sadat X (the haunting "The Truth") and OGC's Louiville Sluggah will easily have you forget about such minor issues. A very pleasantly suprising album that I recommend any Lost Tapes reader to check out ASAP.

AFS 201-973 x PERCEE P - "Stay Focused"

The artist with the somewhat unusual name, AFS 201-973, is soon set to release his sixth album "The Slum Lord Project". Guestvfeatures will include The Rhyme Inspector Percee P, Pace Won, Serius Jones and U.G.G. to name a few. The rugged album single, "Stay Focused", actually features a impeccable Percee P verse over an equally fat beat provided by Beat Bop Scholar (p/k/a known as Thomas V). Video directed by Dru Peebles & The Cheddar Gettas.

In further Percee P news, associate Beat Bop Scholar recently revealed that The Rhyme Inspector is currently working on a full-length album with none other than D.I.T.C.'s Diamond D. This is great news, not only bc Diamond is one of my favorites, but because Percee P fans have basically been fiending for a BX boom bap sounding solo joint since he appeared on classics like "Yes You May" and "Kicking Flavor With Man". Shouts to Thomas V for the info.

Lord Finesse x Percee P - "Kicking Flavor" [Remix]

A bunch of funky releases has seen the light of day since Lord Finesse hooked up with Slice-Of-Spice Records last year. The latest is the 11 track CD, "Funky Man: The Prequel" which features unreleased and remixed 'Ness joints from the early '90s. Included are this new remix of the classic Percee P collabo, "Kicking Flavor With My Man", which appeared in its original incarnation on "The Return of Funky Man". You can also take a listen to the instrumental + order your signed copy of "Funky Man: The Prequel" via Slice-Of-Spice.

[VIDEO] Percee P - "Mastered Craftsman"

The one and only Rhyme Inspector Percee P revisits his 2006 single "Mastered Craftsman" with a new video, directed by Caddy One. The song originally appeared on Perc's debut LP, "Perserverance", completely produced by Madlib and released on Stones Throw. While there's been a lot of debate around whether or not that was the sound to go with for the legendary Bronx bomber's debut, but fact is that it's an all around very dope album that still holds up today. While you're at it, check out the great "Untold Hip-Hop Story" interview, where Percee P speaks on some of his classic work from the early '90s.

New Percee P video

Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't this legendary underground MC Percee P's first official video? Percee's been ripping it for ages, I first heard him on Lord Finesse's sophomore album where absolutely killed two tracks and even got a quotable in The Source for his verse on "Yes You May". That same year he dropped a hot three-track single with producer Ekim and a couple of other obscure 12" inches before becoming M.I.Over the last decade or so he dropped a gang of crazy guest verses for atists like Cenobites, Jurassic 5, Big Daddy Kane, Jedi Mind Tricks and released them as a compilation called "Legendary Status" which seems to be out of print by now.

In 2007 he hooked up with Stones Throw and prepared his long over due debut album "Preserverance", a dope album that's obviously in my record collection. A short while after Madlib remixed the entire LP and put out "Preserverance: The Remix LP"; both can be bought @ Amazon.com. That's where thid video "The Woman Behind Me (Remix)" is from. Also check the Freda Payne sample on this joint, exactly the same RZA created the ODB tribute "Life Change" sample around. Which one do you prefer?
