KA & PRESERVATION are YEN LO - "Day #3"

I'm a huge fan of pretty much everything producer Preservation has done ever since I first heard him on that "Wu-Tang Meets The Indie Culture" compilation. And KA was of course down with the Natural Elements and though I probably heard some verse back then, it was first on GZA's "Pro Tools" album and then on Roc Marcy's albums that I really became aquainted with this rugged Brownsville spitter. Now the two are hooking up as an MC/producer duo under the name of Dr. Yen Lo. The video to their first single is directed by the group himself (KA really loves doing it all by himself), produced by Preservation and vocals entirely produced by KA. I'm not sure when the album, titled "Days With Dr. Yen Lo" will drop, but this is a cool introduction that I'm sure will grow on a lot of people.

[Album] PRESERVATION - "SePtember 1200"

Preservation's been making 2013 into a real fat year for long time followers of his music like myself. Kicking things off with the amazing free digital Mos Def remix album "The RECStatic", followed by the equally dope compilation "Old Numbers" which seamlessly blended together some of his classic, but rare, productions into a fine front-to-back listen.

Now the talented producer returns with another dope free project, an instrumental album entitled "SePtember 1200". Since September 12 marked the anniversary of the passing of the late, great Marvin Gaye, Preservation here creates an album of beats based on the legendary soul legends and produced the material solely on the classic SP1200-sampler. I haven't really listened to it yet, but I doubt it will dissapoint as I can count the so-so Preservation beats I've heard in my life on one hand... Barely... So definitely give this a fair chance, and TURN THAT MF UP!!

[Video] PRESERVATION - "Shyne"

For me it's just super ill that very underrated Preservation is finally taking a large step up in his career this year. With his mid-2000s productions on albums by Mos Def, The Wu-Tang Fam, and Lord Jamar I quickly became a fan and has cherished anything new he puts out since. 2013 has so far seen him release a absolutely terrific free digital album consisting of his full take on Mos Def's "The Ecstatic", the solo compilation "Old Numbers" which is a superb listen that mixes previously unreleased material with a few rare tracks from his catalouge. The latter featured the song "SHYNE", featuring upcoming emcee Yahzeed (which you see the video for above), and with that Preservation just announced that he's closest upcoming project is a full-EP collaboration with Yahzeed called "Of Monolithic Proportions", so definitely keep your eyes and ears the fuck open! And if you haven't already, head over to Mon Die Music Store to cop the "Old Numbers" LP or CD directly from the label.

PRESERVATION's "Old Numbers" Out Now!!

I've had nothing but good things to say about Preservation since I first became acquainted with his work on "Wu-Tang Meets the Indie Culture" and Mos Def's "True Magic". Following the free release of the extremely banging remix album of Mos's "The Ecstatic", the NYC-based producer is now letting loose of the first album under his own name. Titled "Old Numbers", the just released LP is built on collaborations with a bunch of dope artists, ranging from heavyhitters like Yasiin Bey, Jean Grae, Jemini the Gifted One, Edo G, and Minnesota to newcomers like 32 FX, Yazheed, and Milly Mango. Check out the two first singles "Disorderly Conduct" featuring 32 FX, and "Freedom is Everybody's Job" with Yasiin Bey, above and below respectively, and head over to Mon Die Music to order the album in your format of choice; vinyl, CD or digital.

[Album] MOS DEF x PRESERVATION - "The [RE]ECSTATIC"

The summer is fantastic over here, and so far May and June has by far been the most incredible months in 2013 hip-hop so far, and there's stil a lot of ´heavy releases stil on the horizon. This is a real geam; I always tried to spread the word on producer Preservation since I heard him on projects like "Wu-Tang Meets the Indie Culture", Afu-Ra's "Dynamine", his work on Lord Jamar's solo outing and of course Mos Def's "Tru3 Magic" and "The Eccstatic".

"The Ecstatic" was to me one of the most played albums of 2009, super original, clever storytelling built on Mos' unique cadence and some of the best underground producers in the game (Madlib, Oh No, Preservation, Mr. Oizo, Georgia Anne Muldrow, and even J Dilla). So imagine my pleasure to find out that Preservation has remixed the entire album, mixed and mastered as  Jan Fairchild, as "The [RE]ecstatic". While it doesn't match the original album, it's a noble effort and actually sounds fresh as hell. Also included are an exclusive joint called "Black Fantastic", produced by heavyweight underground producer and frequent Mos Def collaborator Minnesota. That "The [RE]ecstatic" is a free project does of course not hurt either, so hurry up and download this while you still can. All you have to do is enter your name and e-mail adress and start downloading, you don't even have to wait to get a confirmation mail. BANG YOUR HEAD to this!!'

[Video] Mela Machinko - "Get That Cash & Run"

You probably know Mela Machinko as the strong, beautiful voice backing up Pharaohe Monch on much of his essential material over the last five years or so. She joined Monch on stage on one of the two times I've seen him, and let me tell you that she was a great presence on that stage and brought a lot of energy and soul to the set (which is actually one of the best concerts I've been to). Now it's her time to shine as she has signed a deal with Soulspazm / W.A.R. for a solo album titled "Hov Said it Best". The funk- and gospel influenced "Get That Cash & Run" is a production collaboration with the two super dope beatsmiths Preservation and Mr. Len. Could very well be the soul album of the year, really want to hear this ASAP.

Mos Def x Preservation - "Quiet Dog Bite Hard" Remix

I still haven't got used to calling Mos Def Yasiin Bey, and since 2009's "The Ecstatic" was released under the Mos moniker I'ma post this under the former Rawkus' king's original name. "The Ecstatic" was one of my most played albums of that year, and Preservation's several contributions were all off the hook, so it's pleasant enws that he is remixing the entire album which will be released as The REcstatic. Word is that the newly interpreted LP will land sometime during next month, but if you want to kow what to expect check out the first single bwlow; "Quiet Dog Bite Hard" (which was actually laced by Preservation in its original form). I have a hard time imagining this will be as terrific as the OG CD/LP but this bangs pretty hard nontheless, and I'm looking forward to hearing what Preservation got in store for this project.
