Sgt. Over / Ras Kass / Ransom - "I'm Thru" + "Black Death"
Jersey's Sgt. Over goes west with sending an invitation for Ras Kass to join him on his latest single "I'm Thru". The result is a hardknocked winner - over a thumping, raw drum track underlining a sparse bass melody broken down by a nicely chopped vocal sample and winding down keys. Ras Kass truly spazzes here, but Sarge definitely gets it in as well. The Basement Beatz produced "I'm Thru" as well as the recent "Black Death" (feat. Ransom) are promotional singles for "Big Music", set to drop sometime during the first quarter of 2014. Before Sarge's official LP drops, two EP:s are however planned for immediate release; "School Of Hard Knoxx" and "Sargenetics"... Stay tuned!

[Album] STATIK SELEKTAH x RANSOM - "The Proposal"
DJ Statik Selektah got the same extreme work morals as a producer that Jay-Z or Nas has as artists. Earlier this year the DJ released "Extended Play", Statik's best solo disc as of yet if you ask me, and last year he released collaborations with Termanology, Bumpy Knuckles and Strong Arm Steady. And still he found times to produce the occassional cuts for Lil' Fame/Termanology, Freddie Gibbs, Raekwon, Havoc, Joey Bada$$ and that slamming G Rap/Action Bronson collaboration from Tony Touch's latest disc.
With such a workload I wouldn't blame him for taking a year off (especially since I sometimes feel his workload make the product suffer at times), but the super skilled DJ/producer shows no signs of slowing down. Seemingly out of nowhere, he brings out a full-length LP with emcee Ransom who's only claim to fame is the watered down debut CD "Street Cinema" and some ill guest features on records by Cormega, Saigon, Fabolous and a few lesser interesting artists. The gully voiced kid can definitely spit but his main problem have been securing dope beats. Enter "The Proposal", fully produced by Statik, almost entirely performed by Ransom (the few guest verses are supplied by Styles P and Ea$y Money), and you got a headnodding album filled with soulful beats, tight drum programming, authorative performances by the emcee who's well written lyrics sound great over Statik's signature style. Oh, and The Selektah's Cuts are all over this so big up for that! Definitely worth a listen, or several; and if you want to purchase it, the digital abum is available @ iTunes!
