[Video] DIAMOND D Ft. STEP BROTHERS - "It's Magic"

It's definitely magic when Diamond D joins forces with Alchemist and Evidence for the third single from his celebrated "The Diam Piece" album. If you haven't grabbed it yet, head over to iTunes, HHV or UGHH. And for the record I think I never got around to posting the video for the Pete Rock assisted "Only Way 2 Go" from the same album before, so that's what you see below.

[Video] STEP BROTHERS - "Why We Do This"

The Step Brother's project has been in the making for several years, and now that "Lord Steppington" is finally hear it's just as dope as I had hoped. While I'm not much fan of Alchemist's rhymes, I always liked Evidence a lot since way back in Dilated's "The Platform" days so with The Chemist's extraordinary beats and dope guests it's definitely makes up for it. A very rewind worthy record to say the least, just like the latest single from the project "Why We Do This" which now has been given the (short) video treament.

[Album] ALCHEMIST x EVIDENCE as STEP BROTHERS - "Lord Steppington"

Oh shit! One of my most anticipated albums in some time is finally hear... Alchemist has definitely been amongst the most interesting and consistent producers of the last two years, and when he first debuted on the scene it was together with Evidence and the Dilated Peoples crew (yeah, even before he became DJ Muggs protogĂ©). Starting with producing 2/3 of Dilated's first 12" single in '97, Al went on to produce a total of about 16 tracks for the crew over their next four albums; a long with several B-sides and singles. Add to that that he was one of the main producers of both of Evidence's two solo albums and plenty of guest apperances featuring them both, and it was obviously only a matter of time before ALC and Ev went full circle by creating the duo Step Brothers. The album "Lord Steppington" has been in the works for a couple of years but is now finally here. Besides leaking a few trailers and snippets we also got our share of dope non-album cuts ("Ron Carter"; "Step Masters"; "Nothing to See Hear").

The full "Lord Steppington" album is finally being released today on Rhymesayers Entertainment, and packs features from The Whooliganz (!), Rakaa, Styles P, Roc Marciano, Fashawn, Action Bronson, Blu, Oh No and Domo Genesis. While both rappers rhyme on the record, the entire album is produced by Alan The Chemist save for "Byron G" which was laced by Evidence. I'm listening to the album now, and it's straight fucking FIRE.. Will definitely have to buy this at one point, hopefully sooner rather than later, but I just ordered a package of wax and my economy is pretty much down the drain at the MO.

The good people at Rhymesayers and the artists involved have decided to put up a free stream of the entire 14 track project (the iTunes deluxe edition features two additional bonus tracks though) via Soundcloud. Order the album @ UGHH (CD or 2xLP), iTunes (digital), or get an autographed copy with a bundle also including a T-Shirt and stickers @ FifthElementOnline. Until then, check out the free stream of the full thing below, and whatever you do... TURN IT UP!!

STEP BROTHERS Ft. Action Bronson - "Mum's in the Garage"

The Step Brothers of Alan The Chemist and Dilated People's top lyricist is very likely my most anticipated album to drop in the first couple of months of '14. "Mum's in the Garage" is a straight up, powerhouse performance from the duo and Action Bronson both in its slightly psychadelic production, shaking bass lines, and tight drums and the vocals. "Lord Steppington" is finally hitting stores on January 21 via Rhymesayers, so you know what you gonna do my friends - and yes, the boys know how to do it (as in coloured 2xLP set, CD, and digital). Much thanks to Noisey for the premier.

[Video] STEP BROTHERS - "Step Masters"

Just like the just released Necro and Kool G Rap collaboration, Alchemist and Evidence's announced Project as The Step Brothers has been in a long time in the making that now seems to move forward at a fast pace. Roughly Three weeks ago we Heard the first leak by the duo under that name, "Ron Carter", a mostly instrumental joint that paid homage to the legendary jazz bassist. The new "Step Masters" is most likely the first official single from the album, titled "Lord Steppington" and out via Rhymesayers Entertainment on January 21, 2014. Throughout Evidence solo and works with Dilated Peoples, and Alchemist's proejct, Ev and ALC has definitely more than enough of heat to supply a terrific compilation which you possibly could expect on The Lost Tapes as we're getting closer to the release. Pre-order @ digital copies or grab the CD/LP from the official store which also carries a lot of other goodies!

STEP BROTHERS - "Ron Carter"

Last week I posted the full tracklist for Alchemist and Evidence's anticipated full-length collaboration as Step Brothers album "Lord Steppington" (with all tracks produced by ALC). The album is out through Rhymesayers Ent. early Jaunary 2014, but already now we are treated to the first official single from the project - and it's definitely a banger! The track is called "Ron Carter" in an homage to one of the greatest jazz musicians/bassists of all time. Check it out below and stay tuned for more info on the project as we comes closer to its release date.

[Tracklist/Artwork] ALC x EVIDENCE as STEP BROTHERS

The sheer body of work Alchemist has produced over the last two-three years, and most of that consisting of front-to-back projects, puts him as the most productive producer our culture has alongside Madlib. Both also would make a top 10 list of my favorites, though the difference with their work ethic if you ask me is that Alchemist pretty much exclusively delivers material that's super dope, whereas some of Madlib's work (I'm thinking for example of certain sections of the "Medicine Show" series, though that had a lot of heat as well) I get the feeling that he at times just release record upon record without giving the material the refinement and self-critical thought the fans deserves. Enough about that but I'm just listening to Alchemist & Boldy James recent LP "My 1st Chemistry" set and stumbled across some refreshing news about an album that's been in the making almost since the start of both invovled artists careers.

I am talking about Alchemist and Evidence's "Lord Steppington" album as The Stepbrothers. This is something I've been looking forward to with a passion; considering I'm a huge fan of Dilated Peoples early 12"s and first two album where Alchemist always were heavily involved; in fact contributing some of his earliest released productions. Since then I couldn't imagine a release by Dilated, Evidence or The Chemist that wouldn't feature at least a couple of tracks featuring these two hip-hop gentlemen getting busy. This album however will see both of them rhyming together, though most likely exclusively over ALC beats, with guests such as Roc Marciano, Oh No, Fashawn, Action Bronson, Rakaa, Blu, Styles P, Domo Genesis and even The Whooliganz (!!!!). How dope does all this sound huh? And YES, the full-length will be made available on a double vinyl set so prepare yourself to get burned by some serious HEAT. Stay tuned for more info, and peep the teaser single that was uploaded a couple of weeks ago here - "Nothing To See / Hear"!

Step Brothers LP info + Teaser Track

For those who are not in the know Step Brothers is the collective group name for Alchemist and Evidence. They are both talented MC/producers that go a long, long way back. Alchemist's earliest records put on wax was in contributing two out of three tracks on Dilated Peoples first 12" in '97 (the "Third Degree" single). Since then they have appeared extensively on each other's projects, Alc has probably produced around 20 tracks on Dilated's four albums, as well as producing heavily on both of Evidence's acclaimed solo albums. Likewise Evidence always appears on ALC's solo projects so it was only a question of time and timing before these LA veteran's formed something official and started working extensively on a full-length album together. The result is an LP called "Lord Steppington" which is due out on November 19 this year on Rhymesayers.

We heard a certified banger from the men on Ev's "Cat & Dogs a couple of years ago, and now they are back with another teaser; and a 12 minutes deep cut at that. Called ""nothing to See / Hear" the epic track is mostly an instrumental excursion, co-produced by them both, that gives good insight into the physcadelic soundscapes we could very well expect from this long-awaited project. It mixes physcadelic sounds with soulful excursions, dark sound effects, low-key funk, small vocal samples, cuts, pounding drums and the ocassional Step Brothers' verse and the result is just excellent. This has been out for a few days, but I haven't really tooken the time to update lately, but this is something you need to hear if you might have missed out on it before.
