Conference w/ Q-Tip @ Red Bull Music Academy

Some of the most interesting part of being a hip-hop fanatic these days is to be able to attend Red Bull Music Academy's musical seminars, whether you do it from home or as part of the audience. Last year we got extensive interviews with Wu-Tang Clan, MF DOOM, Mobb Deep and Black Moon to name a few, and in 2013 there's no shortage of dope artists. The most interesting, if you ask me however, is The Abstract himself, Joan Davis or Kamaal Ibn Fareed, best known as Q-Tip who sat down with Chariman Mao for a two hour must hear session where the former Tribe leader speaks on some of his finest production work, sharing secrets and trivia, and shares about his working relationship with KanYe West and G.O.O.D. Music.

One of the most interesting part of the two hour set is that Q-Tip loads up the MPC with a 1:30 snippet of the original "Mama's Boyfriend", the Billy Joel sampling cut that he created for West's impeccable "My Dark Twisted Fantasy". The song was said to be included on the LP almost until the CD/2xLP hit stores, but due to sample clearances KanYe was even considering using a Souljah Boy remix (a horrible mix that would leak to the net not too long after the LP release). I really hope we get to hear a full CDQ version of Q-Tip's original mix in a near future, as it sounds like it sounds right at home with tracks like "That's My Bitch", "Lif Off", and "Chain Heavy". I suggest you listen to the complete set, but if you're too eager to just hear the extended "Mama's Boyfriend" snippet (being that we've been wanting to hear this one for a couple of years), just press play below.
