[DJ Mix] DRASAR MONUMENTAL - "Vendetta Broadcast #5"

Continuing with Drasar Monumental and Vendetta Vinyl here's a nice DJ Mix put together by the man called "Vendetta Broadcast #5" with the undertitle "2016 Hardcore Mix" so don't expect any watered down shit. This was posted in February so if you're a real fan you obviously already heard it, but since I've basically been taking a break from blogging more or less I want to share this heat with anyone who might have missed it. Crank up the volume!

[Stream] AYATOLLAH X DRASAR - "Boxcutter Brothers III"

I'm so happy to see my man Drasar Monumental and his Vendetta Vinyl team get the props they deserve, first through his excellent work with MF Grimm on the "Good Morning Vietnam" trilogy (undoubtedly one of the finest projects this side of 2010). The next series he started was "Boxcutter Brothers" together with legendary producer Ayatollah who casual fans at least knows from hits like "Ms. Fat Booty" but for sure has put in WORK throughout the years. Together they have created what is now a trilogy of excellent instrumentals for us to bop our heads to, write rhymes to or just free think to. The third installment in the series has landed and can be purchased in digital format via Bandcamp, or in physical format directly from Vendetta Vinyl. The fourteen track project features half of the joints produced by D and the other half by 'Tollah but it does not sound disjointed as they have gone for a coherrent sound. It has been out for a while but now you can stream the entire project before decididing to purchase. Be sure to support the realness.

DRASAR / AYATOLLAH are "The Boxcutters Brother III"

Before his collaborations with legendary MF Grimm on the excellent "Good Morning Vietnam" trilogy, I had really never heard the name of producer Drasar Monumental. But after hearing the trilogy with Grimm I was convinced that Drasar was one of the greatest and most interesting young producers doing it now.

About a week ago I posted some early info on the soon-to-be-released album "Boxcutter Brothers 3", the third volume in a collaboration between Drasar Monumental and Ayatollah. Dusty 70's type samples are all over the barely 40 minutes runtime which are filled to the limits with what 'Tollah and Drasar do best- finding addictive soulful loops, chopping 'em up, adding vocal samples and other interesting sounds to create beautiful music that captures the vibe of the hip-hop culture. Don't sleep as "Boxcutter Brothers 3" is now available (since October 12) on the usual Vendetta Vinyl Vietnam site. Hurry up and buy, and for more music don't forget to check out Drasar Monumental @ Bandcamp!

DRASAR MONUMENTAL & AYATOLLAH - "Boxcutter Brothers III"

The big homie Drasar Monumental continues his strike of slamming underground hip-hop pressed up on wax via Vendetta Vinyl. Following the trilogy of LP:s with MF Grimm, "Good Morning Vietnam", Drasar next hooked up with legendary producer Ayatollah to form the Boxcutter Brothers. Two instrumental albums has been released so far and are available both on vinyl and digital (free stream/downloadable purchase) @ Drasar's Bandcamp. Now the duo has completed the third installment in the series and to wet your appetite they unveils the Drasar produced single "Apex Predator Blades" which premiered over @ UNKUT. Press play on the single and head over to VendettaVinylVietnam.com to pre-order your copies of "Boxcutter Brothers III" (pre-order option will go live on Monday)!

In additional Vendetta Vinyl news both MF Grimm and Drasar recently sat down with The Cipher Show for a real in-depth interview discussing their creative process, Grimm's relationship with DOOM, early work with Kool G Rap, and much more. These brothers are a true inspiration to listen to and the presence of cats like this is what keeps my faith in a beloved culture that in many aspects is becoming more watered down by the day.

[Out Now] AYATOLLAH & DRASAR MONUMENTAL are THE BOX CUTTER BROTHERS

As I often say when I realized that I had completely forgot to post a gem, its always better late than never, and especially when it's a relative new release from Drasar Monumental and Vendetta Vinyl who has supported The Lost Tapes for years now and the love is definitely 100% monumental. The labels main producer Drasar Monumental of course proved with his album/EP trilogy with MF Grimm that he's one of the most forward thinking producers doing it at the moment, while never losing his ear for true Golden Age boom bap. He's been putting out some excellent mixtapes a long the way, featuring illy remixes and such, but  now we are finally getting a brand new release from the man on Vendetta Vinyl.

Entitled "The Boxcutters Brothers" the twelve track album is a joint effort between Drasar and equally incredible legendary producer Ayatollah who provides six instrumentals each (one side of an LP), featuring nothing but "heavy chops, ill compositions, and 12 sliced up instrumentals for you to rock out with". The full title of the album is "Ayatollah & Drasar Monumental are The Box Cutter Brothers - Heavy chops, ill compositions, and Sliced Up Instrumentals" and is available for order via VendettaVinylVietnam.com now while they are still available. Peep the back cover with tracklist below.

[Video] MF GRIMM & DRASAR MONUMENTAL - "Harmonics / Song Of The Winter Soldier"

If you read my countdown of the 12 best albums of 2014 you know MF Grimm & Drasar Monumental's mind-blowing third collaboration together ("GMV III - The Phoenix Program") shared the number one spot with Souls Of Mischief very different but equally sick collaboration with Adrian Younge. This album is a front-to-back banger to say the least, not to say masterpiece, so it's a great thing that the promotion from Vendetta Vinyl continues as the LP flew under the radar of a lot of true hip-hop heads that I know will absolutely love this LP. Here the duo are releasing a double video for "Harmonics" and one of my personal favorites of the LP, "Song Of The Winter Soldier". Hardcore shit that you don't want to sleep on - As always, if you haven't got that far yet, head over to VendettaVinylVietnam.com to purchase the package of all the installments in the trilogy or just grab this third volume if you already have the previous records in the series. Trust me, as limited thse are, you will definitely want to have them all in your collection. TURN IT UP!!

[Album] DRASAR MONUMENTAL - "Strictly Weapons"

When MF Grimm announced that he had teamed up to form a duo with producer Drasar Monumental the latter name was completely new to me. Having now released three projects together, there's no question that they are a match made in hip hop heaven and Drasar Monumental is a straight up incredible beat wizard and DJ. I love how each of the respective records are sonic masterpieces in such a cinematic way that they need to be heard from front-to-back (even taking it so far as the CDs and retail downloads comes as one track containing the entire album or EP). It's a fresh concept, and Drasar never allow the listener to get bored as he's constantly introducing new thematic changes in his music, adding skits, beat switches, and INTENSE drum programming. It's a restless production style to say the least, something that might have something to do with his love for punk rock that he told me about in my interview last year.

Besides his work with Grimm, D has also released some stellar mixtapes, remix albums and so on. One of the earliest of these projects are "Strictly Weapons", a 10 songs deep remix tape, of Mr. Monumental's takes on hip-hop classics by Lord Finesse, M.O.P., Onyx and Nas amongst others. As if that wasn't enough in 2010 he also created a full-length Mobb Deep remix LP called "Remix Weaponry". I might very well have posted that before, but either way it's very interesting to hear these two tapes in light of his evolvement to one of last years absolute best albums. Be sure to head over and visit VendettaVinylVietnam where you can buy all that great music from Grimm and D. Don't sleep because this is limited stuff guys and it's definitely something you need in your collection.

MF Grimm & Drasar Monumental's "GMV III - The Phoenix Program" is available on vinyl and CD now and definitely puts the crown on the "Good Morning Vietnam" series as one of the rawest projects of the decade. My full review of the album should hopefully be up later tonight with some deeper thoughts on it but until then I strongly recommend you all to support the real by heading over to VendettaVinylVietnam and order your copy ASAP. MF GRIMM & DRASAR MONUMENTAL - "Glaciers Of Icex"

You know we are HUGE fans of MF Grimm and Drasar Monumental over here at The Lost Tapes, and when they form like the unit that they truly are close to no other duo, artist or crew can come close. The chemistry on the first two installments of the "Good Morning Vietnam" trilogy both received best albums of the year in our yearly contdouwns (2011 and 2012) recently, and as I reported this Tuesday the final and third installment, subtitled "The Phoenix Program" was finally unveiled to the masses on wax and CD. Wer've heard the incredible six minutes sampler, and now comes the first official single to really make your neck hurt - a slamming joint entitled "Glaciers Of Icex".  Over a jazzy, laid back beat created through Drasar's multi-layered approach creating a chaotic soundbed of beauty that lets MF Grimm's well-thought out lyrics really shine. Absolutely beautiful joint, so be sure to TURN IT UP and head over to Vendetta Vinyl Vietnam ASAP to purchase your copy on CD or wax. If this is not one of the best albums of the year, I'd be very suprised, that's my word!
