[Video] GANGRENE Ft. SEAN PRICE & HAVOC - "Sheet Music"

Gangrene just put together a video in tribute to Sean Price and his apperance on the sickest song from the duo's latest banger "You Disgust Me". "Sheet Music" is a Heavy posse cut with a grinding funeral organ and pounding drums where Sean P, ALC, Oh No and Havoc go head to head. Video isn't anything to write home about but it's good that they getting this song more attention at this moment! SEAN P!!!!

[Stream] GANGRENE - "You Disgust Me"

Alchemist and Oh No is back together again for another serving of that nasty ass Gangrene shit. These two legendary producers and ocassional spitters really bring the heat on their third full length which they have given the fitting title "You Disgust Me". While Oh No is pretty cool on the mic, ALC is not very interesting but it really doesn't matter since the guys have a sick rapport with each other and it's all about the production and overall atmosphere on these Gangrene discs. Heavy on bass, distorted jazz samples, turntable attacks and vocal clips about floating feces, fans of "Gutter Water" and "Vodka & Ayahuasca" will definitely not be let down... Guest spitters include usual suspects like Fashawn, Your Old Droog, Action Bronson, Evidence, Havoc and Sean Price. "You Disgust Me" hit stores this coming Friday (order it @ UGHH), but already know you can stream the entire project below. TURN IT UP!

[Album] ALCHEMIST x OH NO - "Welcome To Los Santos"

The Grand Theft Auto series has always prouded themeselves on excellent soundtracks to accompany the gaming experience. For GTA V, which drops tomorrow for PC, they are taking it one step further as the Gangrene brothers Oh No and Alchemist has been left fully in charge to produce the original soundtrack. The game has been out on various consoles since 2013 which has allowed ALC and Oh to really soak in the atmosphere of the adventure that is "GTA V - Welcome to Los Santos". The fourteen tracks deep album features new music by Freddie Gibbs, Action Bronson, MC Eiht, Danny Brown, Killer Mike, AB-Soul, Curren$y, Kokane, and many more. But don't expect a straight up hip-hop album, as the two Ayahuasca loving producers draws inspiration from a wide range of different styles and sounds to create something totally unique. It's definitely a dope listen though, so don't sleep on this one! You can stream the entire album via the YouTube playlist up top and NPR or purchase the digital download from iTunes if you want to pay your dues.

GANGRENE - "Play It Cool"

Alchemist and Oh No's "Play it Cool" is a collaboration with Earl Sweatshirt and Samuel T. Harring. and is the first single from Gangrene's upcoming LP "Welcome to Los Santos". The GTA V affiliated soundtrack will be released on CD, digital and vinyl as a joint venture between Mass Appeal Records and Rockstar Games on April 21. A week before that fans will be able to hear much of the new music within the game which drops April 14. Sounds pretty damn cool:

"Welcome to Los Santos features fresh tracks inspired by the series first original score, composed by The Alchemist and Oh No in partnership with Woody Jackson and Tangerine Dream, to create a uniquely ambitious album. Featuring guests from across the musical spectrum including Earl Sweatshirt, Little Dragon, Phantogram, Freddie Gibbs, Killer Mike, Tunde Adebimpe (of TV on The Radio), and Samuel Tö Herring (fom Future Islands), The Alchemist and Oh No weave together a musical journey that covers every corner of the fictional world of Grand Theft Auto V".

DURAG DYNASTY - "All Types Of Shit"

When Tri-State, Planet Asia and Killer Been hooked up with producer The Alchemist and formed the Durag Dynasty, releasing several incredible street singles, which was about to be followed up by the full-length album "360 Waves" I was absolutely flabbergasted. While the album was really ill it didn't quite live up to my ridiciiously high expectations but it was definitely a very stellar outing, both from a production and lyrical standpoint that took some time to grow. Now the trio is back with a new song, produced by OHNO, called "All Types Of Shit". Check it out up top, and it will be interesting to see if this is a first street single from a new album or if it's a song that didn't make the first LP. Either way, I can dig it!

Oh shit, here is one that I've been eagerly anticipating! I'm talking about the new Dilated Peoples album, "Directors of Photography", the LA trio's first project as a unit since 2006:s "20/20". Released to stores next Tuesday via Rhymesayers, but already now you can stream the LP in its entirety via Pandora - if you live in the US that is. With both lead singles being crazy ill, a tracklist with guest features from Defari, Gangrene, Sick Jacken, Vince Staples, Aloe Blacc, etc. and Dilated being Dilated this should be a great listen. Be sure to pre-order the 2xLP or CD @ UGHH.

[Mixtape] ALCHEMIST - "The Cutting Room Floor 3"

No matter how much The Alchemist we've gotten over the last couple of years, we just can't get enough. Recently he produced the entirety of Boldy James "My 1st Chemistry Set" and early next year he and Evidence will release "Lord Steppington" as Step Brothers, but as all play and no work makes Al a dull boy we are treated to "The Cutting Room Floor 3" in between. Those familiar with Alchemist knows that "The Cutting Room Floor" is a series of mixtapes (the first released in 2003; the second in 2008) featuring unreleased goodies, demos, alternative takes, instrumentals and weed smelling interludes. The third installment is truly done in a classic mixtape fashion with snippets of songs bleeding into each other, and featuring both previously unreleased old stuff, new cuts, fresh beats, and a few songs that have been out a few years; all produced and mixed together by DJ Alchemist. With verses from Nas, Raekwon, Havoc, Kool G Rap, Blu, Mobb Deep, Large Pro, 50 Cent, Evidence and Gangrene over a stupid fresh batch of ALC bangers, this 20 track set is an absolute joy to listen to, even despite the fact that it has Rick Ross on it. The deluxe edition features an additional six joints which includes new music by Roc Marciano/Action Bronson, Fashawn and Styles P. Aside from Bronson and Marciano's "Pool Hall Hustler" I feel the tape flows much better with just the original 20 tracks however.

If you happen to have a Spotify account you can stream the entire thing over there, otherwise the digital mixtape is of course available to buy from Amazon or iTunes. However you go about it, make sure you hear it!

[Album Stream] MARCO POLO - "PA2: Director's Cut"

Ooooooh shit, the time is finally hear! If you've been following this blog for at least two months you know that I've been superhyped about the release of Marco Polo's official follow up to his 2007 album "Port Authority"; even going as far as stating that this will without a doubt be among the very best albums of 2013. "PA2: Director's Cut" officially hits stores and retailers via Soulspazm Records this Tuesday but the label and artist have decided to let loose of a full stream of the LP a little early, and luckily I happened to sit at the computer just as they did so so I'm breaking my neck and shaking my head in disbelief to this boom bap monster full of ludicrous hard beats, a guest lists that probably haven't been matched since Pete's first "Soul Survivor" and a whole lot of cuts from turntable wizards such as Shylow, DJ Revolution, and DJ Romes. I'm only a few tracks in but I'm just as blowed away as I predicted I would be... Marco Polo is a name you can count on and has been for years, if he's in the credits you can Count on his placement being one of the best tracks on the LP (one of the most telling examples is the track he laced Torae with for the latter's "For The Record"; an album that also featured contributions by DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Diamond D, 9th Wonder, Large Professor, and Nottz).

Things kick off with "3 O'Clock" and from there it just keeps booming and banging in that hardcore hip-hop direction that only true heads can enjoy - your girlfriend might very well ask you to turn off that damn RACKET!! Litteraly, there's standout after standout, both beatwise and lyrical wise - which isn't really suprising considering it features a majority of my favorite spitters of all time. There's a lot of posse cuts here which are so welcome - hearing Tragedy Khadafi, OC, Inspectah Deck, and Large Professor is sort of a dream come true. The preceding joint featuring Nature, F.T., and Big Twinz is a real Winner too, matching the aggressive Queens style of the emcees with a somewhat more soulful beat... Don't get fooled though, nothing on hhere isn't straight balls to the walls hard as far as drum programming and overall style go. I also like how there's a lot of little crazy beat interludes coming in here and there, sometimes with talk over, sometimes not. On first listen I feel that this is by far Marco's strongest album yet; "Port Authority" was a terrific record with instant classics like OC's "Marquee", Large Pro's "The Radar", Roc Marcy's "Lay It Down", G Rap's "Hood Tales" and so forth. While pretty much all the individual tracks were brilliant, I thought as an album it didn't come all the way through as it sometimes felt more like a compilation than an album, due to a lack in coherrence betweeen the songs. That problem is nowehere to be found here; the skits, the typpe of beats, the sequencing, the guests (which include everybody from Last Emperor, La Coka Nostra, MC Eiht, Breezly Brewin, Malcolm Martin, the original Year Round family with Blaq Po, H. Stax & NYGz Panchi,, etc.), and the emphasis on the DJ makes this a truly exceptional journey into beats and rhymes as they should be done. Hip-hop at it's finest in other Word. And this is just on my first listen.... Can't fucking wait to get this on vinyl and make my neighbors hate me a little more! Stream the full album via OnSmash below, and order the CD from UGHH or iTunes if you're truly diitized. I'ma wait til' December 10 when the 3xLP vinyl drops (this set is like 80 minutes and I'm sure as hell ain't complaining).

MidaZ The Beast - "Vodka & Ayahuasca"

I'm a bit late on this one, but Midaz always drop official stuff so I recommend you all to listen. Here he goes in over one of the super rugged beats from Gangrene's "Vodka & Ayahuasca" LP, spitting a short, but powerful verse. Also, in case you missed out on one of the top street albums of last year, do yourself a favor and check out Midaz's "LOOPS" project.

Dope OH NO interview

Posted at AlLindstrom.com, Chris Moss interviews the spectacular emcee/producer known as Oh No. If you, like myself, found your head banging to the ruff, rugged and raw sounds of "Disrupted Ads" and "OhNoMite" this past year you'll definitely enjoy this piece. Just check this quote about the making of "Vodka & Ayahuasca" with Alchemist:

"Do you even know the process of making this album (Vodka &Ayahuasca)? I can’t recall one moment of making this album –not making a beat, a song, nothing. We really should have filmed the recording process. When I hear it sounds like new music. It’s crazy. Ayahuasca is very potent stuff and we have local hood shamans who make it. Like the album, you are supposed to search for this stuff; it’s not out there in everybody’s face like that. I’d wake up and the MPC would be playing an ill-ass beat. I don’t know; maybe there are little elves making beats (laughs). Maybe there is a team of them working for us."

Other notable guests include Blu, Souls of Mischief, Georgia Anne Muldrow and many more. Pre-order @ FatBeats.

[VIDEO] Gangrene / Roc Marcy - "Drink Up"

The boys behind last year's terrific "Greneberg" EP joins back up for some nice visuals to the trio's collaboration from the equally slamming "Vodka & Ayahuasca" project on Decon. Produced by The Alchemist.

New Videos from Gangrene + Phonte

Check out these two very different, but very sick, new videos from Gangrene (Alchemsit + Oh No) and Phonte (Ft. Evidence & Big K.R.I.T.), respectively. The Gangrene vid is another set of Jason Goldwatch directed crazyness for the equally insane psych-rock influenced producing MC's. "Walk Hard" can be heard on the impressive (and free) EP, "Odditorium" which comes highly recommended! Btw, the black-and-white clip right at the end is absolutely INSANE!

The second vid to check out is the visuals to former Little Brother member Phonte's "The Life Of Kings" which comes with a chunck of added West Coast flavor due to guest verses by Evidence and Big K.R.I.T. (apparantly, Ev couldn't make the video shoot however). The song is lifted from Phonte's "Charity Starts At Home"; a dope project from last year that seems to have gone straight over a lot of people's heads. Oh and for those who didn't know, that album is now being released in a double vinyl set with gatefold cover and everything! Pre-order @ UGHH and you'll get it by the release date of May 25th.

[Free EP] GANGRENE - "Odditorium"

Followers of The Lost Tapes know that I hold Alchemist's and Oh No's duo Gangrene as one of the most interesting things to happen in hip-hop the last couple of years. All their releases have been straight fire and can be found in my vinyl crates, from their debut "Gutter Water", to the EP compilation with Roc Marciano known as "Greneberg" and most recently the fantastic "Vodka & Ayahuasca" (speaking of the latter, make sure to not miss out on the iTunes ony exclusive "Dream Nap"). A while back it was announced that the duo was already preparing new material, a four track EP titled "Odditorium" which will be released on picture disc vinyl this Tuesday.

Great news is that already now we can download the entire project for free in 320 kbps exclusively through Red Mull USA's website. And not very unexpected it's another banger to add to the already extremely potent Gangrene catalouge so make sure you don't miss out on this because it's a big possibility that this is a limited time offer only. TURN IT UP!!!!

GANGRENE - "THE FiX"

As promised, the homie Pattch82 and myself delivers the goods with the third and final volume in our Gangrene compilation series. I just received my copy of their slamming "Vodka & Ayaushcha" album earlier so I'm in G.G. mode today. The 10 tracks "tape" presented below includes every released collaboration between Oh No and The Alchemist outside of their two albums and the Greneberg EP with Roc Marcy. Considering that it's out-of-print by now, we decided to also include the four songs from the Sawblade EP (tracks 3 to 6) which bumps up the length of the compilation to roughly forty minutes of blazing heat. In case you missed any of the previous albums, they are still up for grabs (Alchemist's "ChemTrails" + Oh No's "Disruption Productions").

On a side note, M.E.D.'s latest album "Classic" has a song produced by Alchemist that also features Oh No on vocals. However we decided not to include it here, but when you finished bumping this mix you can always peep the video for "War & Love" at the Tube.

01. "Under Siege"
02. "Acts Of Violence" (Ft. Roc C & Crooked I)
03. "Freshest Rhymes"
04. "Operating Room"
05. "The Sickness"
06. "Overdose"
07. "Demons Remix" (Ft. Evidence & Fashawn)
08. "From the Creation" (Ft. Fashawn & Roc C)
09. "How to Drown A Fish" (Ft. Scram Jones)
10. "Chinatown Wars" [Gangrene Mix] [*]

ALCHEMIST - "CHEMTRAILS" [GANGRENE V.2]

Time has come for the second installment in mine and Pattch82's Gangrene series that celebrates the recent release of the duo's  "Vodka & Ayahuasca". Following last week's Oh No tape "Disruption Productions", for this one we have picked out twenty top tracks from the amazing production discography of Alchemist. Since he first started making a name for himself with placements on classic releases by artists like Mobb Deep, DJ Muggs and Dilated Peoples, ALC quickly became one of the hottest producers out there and still holds a top spot in 2012. A long introduction to the music presented on this mix is therefore hardly neccessary. Instead we simply recommend you to grab it, sit back and enjoy the sounds of a true hip-hop chemist at work. (Side Note: I tried several times to upload to Mediafire but had to settle for 4Shared, hope that works smoothly for y'all).

01. Inspectah Deck - "The Champion"
02. Diamond D - "Y'all Need to Know"
03. Big Noyd / Prodigy - "The Grimy Way"
04. Everlast / B-Real - "Deadly Assassins"
05. Evidence - "Sleep Deprivation"
06. Rascalz - "On the Run"
07. Defari / Evidence - "Focused Daily"
08. Sheek Louch / Ghostface Killah - "Movie Niggas"
09. Cormega - "Who Can I Trust?"
10. Nas - "My Will"
11. Big Pun - "Mamma"
12. GURU / Timbo King / Killah Priest - "In Here"
13. Smut Peddlers - "Red Light"

OH NO - "DISRUPTION PRODUCTIONS" [GANGRENE V.1]

Since Gangrene just dropped their second full-length, "Vodka & Ayahuasca", (which I'm strongly recommending you to support) me and the homie Pattch82 decided to collaborate on a three series compilation to celebrate the ocassion. What we're gonna do is to kick things off with "Disrupted Productions" - a banging mix of Oh No outside productions. That will be followed by a similiar compilation showcasing some great Alchemist work and as the big bang final, we'll take things out with every non-album track ever released by Gangrene as a duo. We hope you'll enjoy this Gangrene week as much as we will!

Oh No is a producer and rapper from Oxnard, California who has released several dope albums (instrumental and vocal) through his current home, Stones Throw. Like his big brother Madlib, he got a very twisted, often psychadelic style and a love for the dusty, grimy and unexpected. Basically this fella can take any record you name and make something as amazing as original out of it. But despite solid work with legends like KRS-One, De La Soul, Mos Def, Kweli, AG, MED and many more he still doesn't get the amount of props he really deserves. That is however a fact I believe is about to change very soon, especially with all the Gangrene projects which seems to have landed him some highly regarded production work like the official Black Star reunion single. The compilation you're about to hear was sequenced and compiled by Pattch and includes plenty of material that should have you reaching for that rewind button and head nodding frantically. And just to be clear, we deliberately left off anything released by Stones Throw Records so there's no reason for this link to be taken down label heads!

01. KRS-One - "The Kool Herc"
02. Frank-N-Dank - "The Hustle"
03. Juggaknots feat. Slick Rick - "Vows"
04. Jose James - "Trouble" (Oh No Remix)
05. Oh No / KRS-One / Ricci Rucker - "Boogie Down OX"
06. A.G. - "Gigantic"
07. Percee P - "Throwback Rap Attack" (Oh No Remix)
08. MED - "Overdue"
09. Mos Def - "Supermagic"
10. Oh No - "Interlude"
11. Large Professor - "Radioactive" (Oh No Remix)
12. Erick Sermon & Jarren Benton - "Yeah (Bouncers)"
13. Oh No feat. Raekwon - "Terrorize"
14. Raekwon feat. Method Man - "Every Soldier In The Hood"
15. Roc C feat. Tri-State - "Maniac Murders"
16. Roc C feat. Guilty Simpson & Young Americans - "Ramsackaz"
17. De La Soul - "Reverse Your Steps"
18. Black Star - "You Already Knew"
19. Talib Kweli - "Distractions"

Gangrene - "Dream Nap" [*]

This Tuesday, the Gangrene duo of Alchemist and Oh No released their impeccable headtrip joint "Vodka & Ayahuasca"; the best album of 2012 thus far. As is quite usual these days (and rather unfair to us militant record buyers if you ask me) the iTunes version offers an extra bonus track that's just as trippy and ill as the rest of the LP. "Dream Nap" is produced by Alchemist and features quality verses from Oh No, Roc C, Evidence and Montage One. Many thanks to Gerardoletal for the upload of this one.
