[DJ Mix] J. ROCC x J DILLA - "DiLLAtronic Mix"

Whenever J. Rocc are in charge of a DJ mix you know it's going to be potent as hell and his "Thank You Jay Dee" series still holds up as perhaps the best tribute mixes to the late, great producer that has yet been produced. Just like he did with Pete Rock's instrumental 2015 banger "PeteStrumentals II" the legendary Beat Junkie has cooked down the excellent instrumental posthumous Dilla compilation "Dillatronic" that was released last fall into a seamless 30 minutes mix of his favorite moments from the original 40 tracks selection. While I did thoroughly enjoy the official compilation some of the beats were definitely drawn out for quite a bit too long so this is a good alternative experience of that same music which Dilla mostly recorded between early 2001 and late 2003 (covering unreleased beats from the period that brought us gems like "48 HRS", "Champion Sound", "Ruff Draft" and his work on projects like Slum Village's "Trinity" and Talib Kweli's "Quality"). Matter of fact given the short running time of both I would imagine playing J. Rocc's sets of this and the Pete Rock one back to back should be a great way to spend an hour of the best instrumental hip-hop avalable at the moment. TURN IT UP!!

J. ROCC Mix of PETE ROCK's "PeteStrumentals II"

The legendary DJ J. Rocc of The Beat Junkies always deliver straight heat when he gets on the turntables and crossfader, and this latest free mix is certainly no exception. As you know Pete Rock hooked up with Mello Music Group to finally release the long awaited sequel to his classic "PeteStrumentals" project (2001), an album that he's been promising in interviews since at least 2011. While the project fails to live up to it's predecessor Pete certainly didn't disappoint and at the moment it's one of my most played LP's. J. Rocc certainly liked it as well as he takes his favorite instrumentals of it and creates a seamless 20 minutes mix that stands on its own as a real smooth head nod inducer. [Classic Mixtape] J.ROCC - "Syndromes Remix"

This epic mixtape from renowed Beat Junkie J.Rocc was originally recorded in 1996 and features grand statements on the mixing of classic Jazz, Funk and Soul. While the original tape runs longer this official edit was specially made for Art Don't Sleep last year in preparation for an on-stage interpretation of the music by 'Rocc and The Miguel Atwood-Fergusson orchestra which went down at The Mayan Theatre, LA on November 3rd, 2013. I'm a big fan of Atwood-Fergusson's work on "Suite For Ma Dukes" (Dilla) and "Timeless" (Mulatu Astatke), and this sounds absolutely amazing so if anyone have a link to a recording of this show please let me know!

[DJ Mixes] J-ROCC - "Thank You Jay Dee"

Just the other day, one of the all-time greats producer/DJ:s in Pete Rock released his one hour mix of his favorite songs, beats and breaks from the equally ill, but tragically gone, Jay Dee a.k.a. J Dilla. As this is Dilla month, I wanted to take this opportunity to also post DJ J Rocc's brilliant four part mix series "Thank You Dilla", originally created and released shortly after Dilla's passing, these are without a doubt some four hours of absolutely timeless music. Not only was J Rocc a close friend to Yancey, but he's also a top class DJ and a good producer, so this a long with the recent Pete Rock mix most definitely need to find their way onto your phones or iPods. Tomorrow marks eight years since the tragic passing of one of the greatest musicians of all time, James Yancey, and the internet is full of Dilla tributes right now. J. ROCC / MED - (AXEL F) - "All Day" (Ft. Oh No)

Axel F is a new collaboration by Stones Throw legends DJ J. Rocc, and MC MED who's about to release their debut record in the form of a six-track EP entitled "Sofa Set EP" (also featuring instrumentals). The second sigle from the group is sounding as promising as the first and is called "All Day" which features another dope verse from another Stones Throw ver in the form of Oh No. In other words, enjoy this banger!

Karriem Riggins - "Matador Posse Cut"

For the release of the "Matador" single from his recent gem of an album ("Alone Together"), Karriem Riggins beefs up the original instrumental with a new mix. Featuring ill guest featres from Krondon, Homeboy Sandman, Guilty Simpson, Jon Wayne and J. Rocc this is a bad ass Stones Throw posse cut right here.

Bilal Ft. KRNDN - "Flying High" [J. Rocc Remix]

Three of the illest soul- and hip-hop artists representing their respetivess sright here; the sweet soul singing from Bilal,.and Strong Arm Steady's Kondon over a booming beat provided by fellow Stones Throw musical monster/turntablist J. Rocc. For this latest single/remix he brings his unique sound to "Flying High"; a song that's easily just as good as the original that appeared in its original version on Bilal's underappreciated album "Airtight's Revenge" last year. Overall it's good as hell; a true gem to say the least. I'm not sure if this will be released on wax, but keep your fingers crossed because fans of the Stones Throw label and its roster, should LOVE this. I know I will y'all!
