[Album] DEF DEE - "Deja Vu"

Seattle producer Def Dee was added to the impressive roster of Redefinition Recordson on the strength of his remix album "33 1/3" last year. Now he's back with a more proper album entitled "Deja Vu" which is a big improvement on 2013:s remix project since it features all original songs. The dusty samples, turntable work, obscure samples and heavy rhythm section is back in full effect and even improved at that. There's a lot of intstrumentals, both in the form of interludes and full-length songs. while the vocal cuts features stellar performances by heavyweights Roc Marciano, Blu, Damu The Fudgemunk, One Be Lo, El Da Sensei & Raw Poetic and of course Dee Dee spits some ish in the microphone as well. I got a feeling this kid will go a long way as far as producing goes - and his signing to Redefinition doesn't exactly hurt matters.

I realize that this was made available a few days ago (released September 9 on wax), but as I often say - better late than never when we're dealing with music of this caliber. So if you're still sleeping, press play on the Bandcamp player below (where you can also purchase the digital version) or order the 2xLP set @ UGHH. Up top you'll find the first single and accompanying music video for the El Da Sensei accompanied "Yeah".

DEF DEE Ft. RAW POETIC - "Beau (Dedication)"

Redefinition Records continues with their quality over quanitity program, giving both established and new artists a chance yet pretty much always coming through with interesting records. You might remember the Seattle producer Def Dee from his interesting remix/instrumental album "33 And A Third". Now he's back with a more proper solo album, set for a Septemeber 9 release, and the lead single is a collaboration with Redef favorite Raw Poetic in "Beau", a dedication to Def Dee's cousin who lost his life in a motorcycle accident. You can also check out the instrumental album cut "Pay More Attention". Pre-order the vinyl of "Deja Vu" , which also features Roc Marciano, Blu, Kaimbr, Damu, One Be Lo and El Da Sensei, @ Redef's Official Site,

[Album] DEF DEE - "33 & A Third"

Another real dope project that was just released by Mello Music Group this last few days comes from Seattle producer Def Dee. Having been given access to the MMG vaults and label roster, Def Dee's debut is called "33 & A Third" and features fresh remixes, instrumentals and brand new cuts - making it a cross between an album and a compilation. With knocking instrumentals and verses from some of this generation's finest underground lyricists such as Buff1, yU, Boog Brown, Black Opera, Kenn Starr, Black Milk, Uptown XO, and many more this is definitely a musical journey that calls for your attention.

[Album] DEF DEE & LA - "Gravity"

The Seattle duo of Def & La are released their debut album "Gravity" on Nine Six Records back in mid-2010.  I just stumbled across this baby, and was impressed by both the wordplay and production. A lot of ill jazzy beats, with stand-up bass, vibraophones, turntablism and hard ass drums, while La spits introspective shit that demands your attention. If you're like me and missed this when it first dropped, it's never too late so just hit play below...

Def Dee Ft. Magestic Legend, Buff1 & Hasaan Mackey - "All It Takes"

Mello Music Group keeps bringing out interesting new artists into the spotlight, something they deserve huge credit for. Latest in line is Seattle producer Def Dee who signed a development deal with the label about a year ago which gave him access to their catalouge and connections with the roster. Dee's first release is now ready for the world; "33 and a Third" is a blend of a full-length LP and a compilation, cleverly created from fresh instrumentals, new songs and remixes with exclusive vocals. The first single to be liberated is called "All It Takes", featuring Hasaan Mackey, Buff1, and Magestic Legend; a fresh new take on the latter's joint of the same name from the album "The Great Escape". You can now pre-order the digital album @ iTunes.
