Since I'm usually quite heavily up on whatever K-Def drops I'm suprised this excellent release that dropped almost a month ago quitely slipped by me. Some time ago 'Def hooked up with fellow Redefinition Records artist Raw Poetic for a three track 45 EP featuring three real stand out cuts that all appear on "Cool Convos in Quantum Speech" which adds an additional ten tracks for a real rich listening experience. I really hope this will get a physical release as it seems it's strictly digital for now, purchase it from Redefinition's Bandcamp or iTunes. Smooth, quality stuff right here!

[Album] DEF DEE - "Deja Vu"
Seattle producer Def Dee was added to the impressive roster of Redefinition Recordson on the strength of his remix album "33 1/3" last year. Now he's back with a more proper album entitled "Deja Vu" which is a big improvement on 2013:s remix project since it features all original songs. The dusty samples, turntable work, obscure samples and heavy rhythm section is back in full effect and even improved at that. There's a lot of intstrumentals, both in the form of interludes and full-length songs. while the vocal cuts features stellar performances by heavyweights Roc Marciano, Blu, Damu The Fudgemunk, One Be Lo, El Da Sensei & Raw Poetic and of course Dee Dee spits some ish in the microphone as well. I got a feeling this kid will go a long way as far as producing goes - and his signing to Redefinition doesn't exactly hurt matters.
I realize that this was made available a few days ago (released September 9 on wax), but as I often say - better late than never when we're dealing with music of this caliber. So if you're still sleeping, press play on the Bandcamp player below (where you can also purchase the digital version) or order the 2xLP set @ UGHH. Up top you'll find the first single and accompanying music video for the El Da Sensei accompanied "Yeah".

DEF DEE Ft. RAW POETIC - "Beau (Dedication)"
Redefinition Records continues with their quality over quanitity program, giving both established and new artists a chance yet pretty much always coming through with interesting records. You might remember the Seattle producer Def Dee from his interesting remix/instrumental album "33 And A Third". Now he's back with a more proper solo album, set for a Septemeber 9 release, and the lead single is a collaboration with Redef favorite Raw Poetic in "Beau", a dedication to Def Dee's cousin who lost his life in a motorcycle accident. You can also check out the instrumental album cut "Pay More Attention". Pre-order the vinyl of "Deja Vu" , which also features Roc Marciano, Blu, Kaimbr, Damu, One Be Lo and El Da Sensei, @ Redef's Official Site,

[Album] KEV BROWN & RAW POETIC - "Concentrated Maneuvers"
There's so many dope Music being released right now that it's almost impossible to constantly stay up to date. I'm a big fan of Kev Brown and what Little I've Heard from emcee Raw Poetic through his work with K-Def and his Group Pancaea, I was real excited that these two would hook up for an EP / mini-album this summer. I posted a few singles a while back but apparantly the 13 track Project was released about a month ago. Clocking in at around 25 minutes, the Project is filled with Brown's lo-fi jazzy piano licks, sampled funk- soul- and jazz samples with clever life rhymes and catchy hooks delivered like only Raw Poetic could. I think many of my readers will find very inspiring. The extended EP is entitled "Concentrated Manuevers" and features in total thirteen tracks, coonsisting of relatively short songs and featuring one guest apperances from Kaimbr. The Project is Another fine release from Redefinition Records and can be bought and streamed in its entirety @ Brown's Bandcamp.

RAW POETIC & KEV BROWN - "District 9"
As you should now from the previous singles, Raw Poetic and Kev Brown have joined forces as an emcee/producer duo in recording their first project together for Redefinition Records. Although an EP rather than an LP as I have stated before, "Concentrated Maneuvers" is shaping up real nice as you can hear by the latest single "District 9" which you can check out up top. The mini album will be available on Redefinition / Low Budget Records sometime this July so be on the look out. Pre-order the wax @ UGHH or the digital @ iTunes (where you can also peep the tracklist).

[Album] DAMU THE FUDGEMUNK - "Public Assembly"
The last of the new Redefinition albums I'm posting about tonight comes from label co-founder and highly skilled beatsmith Damu The Fudgemunk. His new 12 track compilation album "Public Enemy" features rare instrumentals and rare tracks never before released on vinyl, and in some cases never at all, and will be released on brown or black 12" vinyl; originally intended an an Record's Fair 2014 exclusive, the label went ahead and releases a limited vinyl run available for order - being released worldwide on July 8 but for fans ordering now it's already shipping. It's an instrumental 12 track compilation featuring hard-to-find instrumentals to tracks like "Truly Get Yours", "Madvillain Revision", "Overthrone", "Supply For Demand Intro", "Yes We Can - Headphones Remix" and more. Through Damu's Bandcamp you can stream the entire set already now, order the HQ digital download and for the LP grab it straight from Redef. You'll definitely have your head nodding to this one, and as that wasn't enough also check out the masterful producer latest 45 single "Walk in the Park", a remix of the Raw Poetic/Pancacea joint of the same name with the instrumental on the flip. TURN IT UP (however notice that the embeded player below starts @ track #4 so be sure to rewind to track #1 before hitting play if you want the full experience)!!

KEV BROWN & RAW POETIC - "Think Much"
Kev Brown, one of the illest producers around, is definitely active at the moment, as he's not only just released the mini album "Pillars" with MindsOne a few days ago but is also working hard on a joint album with emcee Raw Poetic. The album is titled "Concentrated Maneuevers" and will be released on Redefinition Records on wax this spring, Back in February we heard the single "Super", now you can check out "Think Much" above.

RAW POETIC & KEV BROWN - "Super"
I've written it before here, but I'm a huge fan of Kev Brown's work as a producer; he is innovative and very often bring something new to table while still having a signature sound. As for Raw Poetic I haven't heard as much (I have the 3-track EP with K-DEF, and his two other apperances on different 'Def's LP:s), but the little I've heard tells me he's a slick emcee as long as he's got a dope producer backing him. So the news that Brown and Poetic is preparing a full-length release on Redef/Low Budget came as a very pleassant suprise, and is definitely something I will spend money on. The album is called "Concrete Maneuvers" and is scheduled for a release sometime this year. Today they dropped the first single, and although it's only about 1:30 in length (yes it's the full song), you can hear the chemistry there and I already rewinded it about 3-4 times. I could imagine this being the intro to the project but who knows... Stay tuned for future updates!

Raw Poetic - "Ahead of The Game"
Virginia spitter and Panacea member Raw Poetic has been dropping a lot of crazy ish with none other than K-Def over the last year; starting with his apperance on 2011's "Nightshift" mini-LP, which culminated in the three tracks strong 7" EP "Easy Way Out". To me his voice and delivery really stands out, as something out of the ordinary as he could easily get a party going while he at the same time also has a lot of important messages to spread, so when a producer like 'Def takes him under his wing you know it's gonna be some shit. I'm not sure where this new track, "Ahead Of The Game" will end up but the simple yet intricate production is just perfect for Raw's raw spit. Turn it up!!!

Raw Poetic & K-DEF - "Stealin' Bread"
K-DEF, who long has been one of my favorite producers, has been on a roll since he joined the Redefinition Records roster. I got all the releases so far and will definitely pick up his two latest 45:s as well. The first is a three track EP with Raw Poetic, who previously collaborated on 'Def's "Night Shift" EP/LP. The second 7" single also has three tracks, with the joint "Ghetto Man's Hideout" as the A-side. You can now order and listen to snippets for both @ Redef's site: "Ghetto Man's Hideout" and "Easy Way Out" w. Raw Poetic. The B-side for the latter, "Stealin' Bread" can be streamed and downloaded for free below.

Damu the Fudgemunk / Raw Poetic - "Streamline"
Redefinition Records keeps cementing their position as one of the leading labes for pure underground hip-hop. The latest forthcoming project out the camp is a Damu the Fudgemunk 16-tracks album with Panacea emcee Raw Poetic (who made a marvellous recent apperance on K-Def's "Night Shift"). The LP will serve as the follow-up to a previous collaboration between the two known as "Kilawatt V.1" (the new project is instead titled "Killawatt V.1.5") The first single which you can hear below and is sure to get you hyped goes by the name of "Streamline". February 28th is the release date so be on the lookout. For more info and to place orders head over to The Redefinition site.
