[Classic FULL Promos] WU-TANG CLAN '94/'97

Any Wu-Tang related sites since the beginnings have had a FAQ about what that music that was played in the interlude to Spot Rusherz. Any even pretending Wu fanatic know by now that dope beat and rhymes was a RZA-produced Clan commercial commisionned in the first half of the '90s. Like the snakes these corporate business is, St. Ide's was at the time aiming for a big splash in the black and minirorities community. Think of it, what other product in 1992/1994 was marketed to blacks. Sure there were the Sprites and Mountain Dew commercials as we willll, but that was still a couple years down the road.

But back to the topic - although only one minute in length (barely), it's ovvious the grop didn't just see this as an easy paycheck but rather made sure they had some real hot, well thought out shit. RZA's production evokes outdoor neighborhood barbeques on a hot summer day. And there's no question that Meth Ghostace, Raekwon, U-God and RZA were taking their time to write their short verses to make sure this came out the right way. Just check this immaculate Ghost verse, delivered with his nasal power bars style of the '90s. "Call me the Wallabee Champ, stretched out, could never be Son/ Ricochet daily hit the deli for a cold one/ Naturally blessed, yes, my rap is like a laser beam/ That blows in the bushes, St. Ide's fill the canteen". A 30 second edit was aired on MTV, while the full 60 seconds joint appeared from time to time on radio. Thanks to the homie Cilvaringz for the first time we have "St. Ide's Commercial" not only in full, but for the first time in as good a quality as possible. This was given to him by RZA and taken straight from the ADAT so the quality is really superior to anything you heard before though it's not really mixed. Oh by the way, track is produced by The RZA with co-production by Method Man according to 'Ringz.

The St. Ide's commercial is relatively known after all, it had its TV spot and been all over the net. However only the real Wu heads know that RZA and the Clan was commisioned to do a Mountain Dew commercial somewhere between '96-'98 and a 30 second snippet used to to be available online around 2002, but I haven't seen it for YEARS (the actual collaboration was aborted I believe). Now, once again thanks to Cilvaringz, he has uploaded the full one minute song - which plays more like an interlude than a commercial. Produced by The RZA, it deifinitely got that "Wu-Tang Forever" sound and the five legendary emcees all sound like they did on that album (where they do me was at their absolute peak). Again, Ghostface steal the show for me, caught in between his stream-of-consciousness style and his more rugged street persona, while Deck is always Deck, Masta Killa does what he always does, etc. A must hear! And a big thank you goes out to Cilvaringz and the peeps at Wu-Corp. for these gems - but more people deserve to hear them imo!

Hip-hop has always been a movement for the underdog which explains why many of the all time best projects in the genre has been created on a real underground movement. Bugsy Da God might not be the most recognized name in this industry, that's for sure, but he heavily endorsed by Killarmy's Dom Pachino and by extension many of the extended Wu-Tang family (the dope ones at that like Shyheim, Falling Down, 4th Disciple and Bronze Nazareth). In 2011 he released "Terrorist Advocate" his solo debut, again presented by Dom Pachino, and featuring production by 4th and Bronze and received acclaim from dedicated Wu-Tang and Killarmy fans all over the globe. With his second album which was just released the other day his gritty reality raps has been sharpened a lot more as his flow, delivery, writing and performance has been severely improved. And with strong production by Havoc, 4th Disciple, UK's Endemic, Falling Down, Bronze Nazareth and guest verses from Dom Pachino, Timbo King, Tragedy Khadafi, Lethafase, Trife Diesel, Afu-Ra, Masta Killa, Progial Sunn, Big Noyd, Killah Priest, Polite, and Islord you can count on this being one of those albums people will rediscover ten years from now, wondering why the hell people totally overlooked this gem on release. MASTA KILLA Ft. CAPPADONNA - "Return Of The Masta Killa"

Another Wu banger for 2015! I wasn't crazy about Masta Killa's last album "Selling My Soul" which felt kind of half-assed if you ask me (however, I think his "Made in Brooklyn" LP is highly overlooked). However, underrated NY producer PF Cuttin' has a way of bringing out the best out of MK ("It's What It Is", "Things Just Ain't The Same") so it should come as no suprise that there new collaboration is another ill jam. "Return Of The Masta Killa" also features Cappadonna and you can cop the digital single @ PF Cuttin's Bandcamp.

[Album] HALO Guest Starring MASTA KILLA - "Mansa Musa"

Wow, this pretty much came out of nowhere even for a huge Wu-Tang fanatic like myself; having only heard one or two singles from Halo & Masta Killa produced by 9th Wonder recently, but that the two worked on the downlow on an entire LP came as complete news to me. I have only started listening, but the collaboration sounds fresh on an early basis, and with production from 9th Wonder, Khrysis, Nottz, and AMP it can't be half bad. It seems it's a digital project only, with guest features from the likes of Talib Kweli, Badd Lucc, Problem, Rapsody and more joining Halo and guest star Masta on the microphone. ED)T - Taking a closer look at the tracklist, Masta Killa appears on five songs in total but it's still a nice look for the Wu-Tang emcee who's really has been't releasing much of anything since his last, relatively underwhelming LP, "Sellin' My Soul".

ENDEMIC / WU-TANG - "King's Indian Attack"

If you haven't heard UK super producer Endemic's boom blazing "Terminal Illness 2", here's another great reason to check it out ASAP. Here the producer serves up a vintage sounding Wu banger with the vocals handled by Masta Killa, Cappadonna and Bronze Nazareth - also got to give props to DJ Switch on the crossfader. I've promoted Endemic's album heavily on The Lost Tapes, so you should know the many dope guests already so I'm not going through that again, but check out "King's Indian Attack" below, order the CD @ UGHH and TURN THAT VOLUME UP!!

  

Ghostface Killah x Apollo Brown - "Murder Spree"

Ghostface Killah's collaboration with producer Adrian Younge is going hot right now, and a few lucky bastards is sitting on the remix LP by Apollo Brown ("The Brown Tape") right now as well. For us others, at least we are lucky to get to hear a few jams, such as the incredible interpretation of "Murder Spree" above, while we wait for a rip or a more widespread release, which according to Apollo's management is not an impossibility if the hunger for it is big.

[Live] GHOSTFACE / MASTA KILLA / KILLAH PRIEST

Backed up by The Roots band, Ghostface Killah took the Jimmy Fallon stage to promote their upcoming masterpiece "12 Reasons to Die". I first heard the album the night before yesterday and since then it has played front-to-back numerous time, and yes, I love it more than anything Ghost has done since it at least "Fishscale"; maybe even "Supreme Clientele" or the original "Bulletproof Wallets" is closer, still. Ghost sound reborn (just as the first single suggests) over Adrian Younge's live instrument-driven mix of soul, RZA and Enio Morricone's western scores. That it's a concept album really seems to light a fire under the Faced Killer, as he at times has become somewhat of a clichéd NY rapper on his last few releases. On top of that, there's plenty of Wu guests on there, all bringing their A-game (just check Deck's three outstanding verses), and last but not least Ghost once again sounds like he did on all RZA handled products between '92 and '00. This is due to RZA, who's overseeing and narrating the project, has pitched down GFK's voice just a notch; something he has been quoted as saying of other producers and engineers that they don't know how to mix Ghost. Also there's a lot of Rhodes here which is GREAT to hear in hip-hop again.... Enough with the ramblings, but I just love this LP.

No, the post is not a review of "12 Reasons...", but rather a HQ video from The Jimmy Fallon show where Ghost performs the Masta Killa guested "I Declare War". Not only does Masta appear alongside Ghost, but even Killah Priest jumps on to attack the mic with the other two killas. I really hope that The Roots will release another volume of their finest live performances on the show as 2010's super tight "Late Night With The Roots". I guess we'll have to wait and see...

GHOSTFACE x INS x U-GOD x MASTA KIL' x KILLA SIN

The fourth single from the super anticipated Ghostface (emcee)/Adrian Younge (producer)/RZA (exec.) is here as the album is soon out (April 16 for those with short memories). "Murder Spree" is by far the grittiest of the singles leaked yet, with Ghostface hooking up with half the Wu-Tang Clan (Masta Killa, Inspectah Deck, Masta Killa and U-God) and a rare and very welcome apperance from Killa Sin. As I'm really anticipating this like crazy, this will definitely be the last song I'll listen to before I get the chance to hear the complete album as 1/3 of it has already been given away as singles.

Masta Killa's third outing "Loyalty is Royalty" was announced quite some time ago, along with the release of several singles and recording information. Now an album entitled "Selling My Soul" seems to have taken it's place as The Masta is aiming to put out the 16 track project via Nature Sounds/Royal Lion Ent. on December 11. I notice that the main singles are still to be seen on the tracklist, so this might just be the same project with a new title. Either way, I've been a fan of Masta's two previous releases and at least now we got a release date. Production from PF Cuttin', 9th Wonder, and Allah Mathematics with verses by Kurupt and even the late ODB looks all right to me. Check out the deluxe edition package too, pretty cool haha.

9th Prince / Masta Killa / Cappaonna - "Back to 36"

9th Prince brings out both Masta Killa and Cappadonna for his latest single, "Back to the 36", which is a fitting title given the emcees and style of the beat. I'm especially feeling Masta Killa here, that "Loyalty is Royalty" has been delayed for way too long by now.

9th Wonder - "The Woner Years" leaks

As I reported a while back, most-of-the times very reliable producer 9th Wonder formerly of Little Brother fame, has completed his solo album "The Wonder Years". Looking at the tracklist and features this is shaping up to be a real good album and the two-to-three leaks we've got so far is really shaping up to support that statement. Recently we've been treated to the "One Night" featuring Phonté, Terrace Martin & Bird & The Midnight Falcons; the Raekwon/Big Remo featuerd "No Pretending" and as I mentioned in the thread I linked above the Masta Killa joint that was supposed to be on his "Loyalty is Royalty" might in fact be either the same version or a remix or not the same track at all. Time will tell. Check them all out above and drop a comment on what you think about these three teasers. You gonna support the album or what? The second single from Bronze Nazareth's "School For The Blindman" is called "The Road" and features quality apperances from both Wu-Tang Clansmen Masta Killa and Inspectah Deck. The production is classic Bronze with chopped drums and soulful vocal samples on some Wu meets the Detroit sound. Man, I just wish my brother K could hear this joint cuz I know he would've loved it. The video clip above seems to be the official visuals that goes with the song although it's just fight scenes from "Kill Bill, Vol. 1" (which of course, The Abbot himself had a role in scoring and music supervising).

Wu-Tang general Masta Killa hooks up with 9th Wonder for the title track of his upcoming third LP, "Loyalty is Royalty". I'm feeling this one, very smooth and soulful which is a style that I never really associated the emcee with before but it definitely works for him. The last single we heard, "Are You Listening?", was heading in the same direction which makes me wondering if this will be the direction he's taking for the majority of the album. Wu-Tang's silent assassin finally comes through with a new single - "Are You Listening?" will appear on Masta Killa's third LP "Loyalty is Royalty" which hopefuly will be out before the year is over. This joint really got me amped for the album, that high-pitched stream of vocals and violins blends perfectly with MK's smooth flow and is sure to be in my constant rotation during the summer. The beat is actually produced by Inspectah Deck and was originally heard on his instrumental offering, "The Bodyrock, Vol. 1". My only question is why the hell the Rebel doesn't pick tracks like this for himself to spit over these days. Shouts to Whyz Ruler for the much appreciated upload.
