Featuring remixes by the pianist/composer himself, Pete Rock, ?uestlove, Georgia Anne Muldrow and 9th Wonder, the six track set is now available to experience in full... Robert Glasper Experiment - "Black Radio Recovered" EP

Blue Note's new flagship artist, the pianist and composer Robert Glasper is by far one of the most interesting things to happen in the jazz world at the moment. For his fourth album, "Black Radio", Glasper has left the more traditional piano trio vintage jazz music for an eclectic fusion mix of hard bop, jazz fusion, hip-hop, soul and R&B. Now that the full-lengther is starting to sink in, Glasper invites some of his favorite producers to reinvision some of the cuts from the album for "Black Radio Recovered Remix EP". With a total of six tracks, this week will see Glasper release one cut through his Soundcloud page each day, culminating with the non-album track (although the original was featured on an earlier album from the pianist) "Dillatude #2" on Monday 8.

Check out half the EP below, and the other half will be posted on the date mentioened above. The tracks released so far include a Pete Rock remix of the Yasiin Bey/Mos Def assisted title track; a 9th Wonder version of the Erykah Badu featured "Afro Blue" (possibly my favorite joint from the original LP), which also includes a brand new verse from Phonte; and last but not least Georgia Anne Muldrow's envisioning of "The Consequece of Jealousy" with vocals by Meshell Ndegoeocelle. Be on the lookout for remixes by ?uestlove and Glasper himself featuring Black Milk. Gotta love stuff like this that basically comes out of nowhere!!

[Stream] Flying Lotus - "Until The Quiet Comes"

NPR brings out another appreciated "First Listen" with an early preview of the upcoming album by much praised LA producer Flying Lotus. Possibly less experimental than previous outings, "Until The Quiet Comes" features a soothing blend of dusty jazz and scorching hip-hop breaks. Guests are kept at a minimum, but Erykah Badu and Thom Yorke both pop up for a guest apperance each. The physical album will be available in stores on October 2 via Warp Records. Afro Blue Seeds from the SOUL

New singles by the Soul queen and the princess, or Erykah Badu and Georgia Anne-Muldrow as they are also referred to as. Both songs have a few days on the neck by now as I was supposed to post them earleir but whatever. These are both definitely worth your attention, so enjoy.

It has been revealed that Georgia Anne-Muldrow's next album will be a collaboration with Mr. Madlib which will make for some cool ass music for sure. Previously, most of the soulstress' output has been self-produced, given that she's a beast on the sampler herself, so this is a special ocassion. The album is to be titled "Seeds" and the first single is also the title track which will be released on February 14 (in what formats i'm not sure). Look for "Seeds" in stores on March 27.

Not handling production and focusing strictly on the lyrics and vocals was a very different experience for me.  It was as if I walked into someone else’s world and built a hut.  But I’m very proud of the hut we built and am excited about the release.”- Georgia Anne-Muldrow

Georgia Anne Muldrow & Madlib - "Seeds"

Pianist and producer Robert Glasper will release his new album "Black Radio" this year. For the first single he hooked up with Erykah Badu who provides this jazzy banger with her great voice and trademark vocal style. The song in question is a composition by Mongo Santamaria called "Afro Blue", a track that Coltrane played quite a bit during his last years in the physical. Check out more about Glasper and the upcoming album @ his official site and peep the joint below.

"Erykah loves flutes, so I arranged this song with flutes in it. This song was recorded during the time she was on the Rock The Bells tour. Luckily she was able to come in and do the song.”  - Robert Glasper

Erykah Badu in the mix

I'm usually not a big fan of "greatest hits" mixtapes so to speak, since I'm all about full-length albums. But if you're not that familiar with Erykah Badu I guess this could be a great start since the mixing is tight and there's plenty of classics included. And for the hip-hop diehards that never would consider listening to an R&B or soul record maybe they'll realize that Erykah is true school hip-hop all the way; much more so than, say, Rick Ross, Drake and all that other bullshit. If you haven't picked up her latest offering, "New Amerykah Part Two: Return Of The Ankh", you can order it from Amazon or whatever; it's a dope LP well worth hearing.

As for the mixtape, it's called "Greatest Vibes" and is divided into two sides just like a vintage cassette tape. Side A is compiled and mixed by DJ Corey Grand while DJ Warren Peace is handling the B-side. "With an emphasis on selection with 2 sides that build on one another yet tell 2 different stories. Each track features seamless blends with just enough of each classic song to keep the listener entertained." Spotted @ the Dope House (click the link to see the tracklist). Beautiful cover art by Joshua Wallace.

New ERYKAH video

Erykah Badu's two albums in the "New Amerykah" series has been fenomenal and some of the best LPs of their respective years. Badu is a soulful and independent woman who's always just being herself, here over beats and brakes of soul, hip-hop, classic blues and a large dose of funk. The soundscapes on these two albums came from Sa-Ra, Madlib, J Dilla, Kareem Riggins, James Poyser, ?uestlove and Badu herself amongst others. I strongly recommend you to pick up, or at least check them out, sure it's labeled as soul music but the truth is that Erykah is more hip-hop than the majority of rappers calling themeselves emcees these days.

The video is the second one from her "Return Of The Ankh" album, volume II in the series, and the song is the Biggie tribute paying "Fall in Love (Your Funeral)". This one is produced by the one and only Karieem Riggins, an incredible beatmaker and drummer that's worked closely with J Dilla, Herbie Hancock, The Roots and Common amongst others.
