STS & RJDT - "Hold It On, Here We Go"

I wasn't too familiar with Philaelphia emcee STS prior to his apperances on The Roots' last few albums, with gained him a full position in the Money Making Jam Boys free street album "10 Deep Mixtape: Now the crew whch consits  of The Rootsm members and affiiliates (Black Thought, STS, Peedi Crack, PORN, Truck North, and Dice. While the new sinle "Hold It On, Here We Go" is not an MMJB's joint; rather it's a slamming single, experfectly crafted by the one and only RJD2 and Terrace Martin himself. Martin shares a deep love for pure jazz music, often incorporating Rhodes, horns and syncopated rhythms while RJD2 isn't exactly either the most traditional hip-hop producer out there.

While I've been a fan of RJD2 since his Def Jux days, it was mostly through his extensive works on Kendrick Lamar's outstanding sophomore major rerelease "To Pimp A Butterfly") that I really started to take an interested and I haven't looked back since. This joint, entitled "Hold It On, Here We Go" is nothing but two mintes of excellent so be sure to Pump-Pump-Pump-It-Up!"

SEAN C & LV Ft. BLACK THOUGHT, STS & PEEDI CRACK - "Fire"

Before hooking up as a duo around 2002, Sean C was a member of The Vinyl Reanimators and The X-Men, producing classic underground singles for MF Grimm, Call O' Da Wild, E-Bros (remember that insane jam "Funky Piano", yup he was behind that one), Edo G, Smif-N-Wessun, and Big Pun. But it was when he hooked up with LV and The Hitmen that really made a name for themeselves, The Hitmen hadn't been exciting since Easy Mo Bee and Carlos Broady & Nashem Myrick left, and here these two were now, making modern masterpieces that often worked both on a street and a club level.  Which reminds me, Chris we need to make that Sean C / LV comp happen real soon haha!

Last year they released their first project under own name, "Loud Dreams Vol. 1" which featured a few bangers by Raekwon but was overall not all that exciting. That they ditched this Money Making Jam Boys posse cut in favor for lots of other songs is just beyond me, because this is is an ill '80s hip-hop vibe thiing and Black Thought went in with pure murder on his mind. But what else is new right?

[Album] TRUCK NORTH - "Murder By Mourning"

Money Making Jam Boy and Philladelphia native Truck North has made strong contributions to nearly every The Roots album released since he debuted next to Talib Kweli and Tariq on 2004:s "The Mic" (which appeared as a hidden track on the highly underrated "The Tipping Point"). With "Murder By Mourning", the time has come for Truck to show and prove that he can deliver and hold things down on the solo tip. The nine track project features Truck doing just that over impressive production work that many times channels classic hip-hop records of the past. The beats and production was supplied by Dante Lewis and Khrysis (who've both done a real good job on here) with The Wurxs and Rashad while fellow Jam Boys Black Thought and STS joins Truck on the microphone for the bumping "Band Of AU". Make sure you check it out @ DJBooth for yourself as it's both free and ill - a combination that is usually worth the time. In addition to the free EP/mini-LP, up top you find the video for the moody, Erykah Badu sampling single "Cry For You".

Greg Porn Ft. Freeway - "Dot"

Greg Porn is a Philly emcee who's closely affiliated who's closely affiliated with The Legendary Roots crew in more than one way. He first appeared with the crew on the 2005 compilation "NBA 2K6: The Tracks" where Porn joined forces with Black Thought, Dice Raw, and so forth. Together with these two, Greg Porn would later appear on a majority of the next-coming The Roots albums and became an official member of The Money Making Jam Boys collective; an extraordinary super group who's 18-track mixtape "The Prestige" were a great way for Black Thought and his friends to really shine over both sampled and live music. The sound quality and production is especially nice, so you can bet I would love to see a limied vinyl release of the "street abum".

But enough about the past, "Dot", is the first single from Greg Porn's long-time in the making official debut album "Amerikan Junkie". The rowdy Philly song sounds like it could be a good indication of what to expect from the full-length, which is out on Soulspazm on October 1. The single also feature fellow Philly veteran Freeway who add some much needed additional dopeness to the track!

STS - "The Interview" [prod. Alchemist]

It's not often that you go wrong with an Alchemist banger as he moves closer to one of the all-time greatest producers with everything he touches on. This time Maman lends his production talents to S.T.S., the Atlanta/Philadelphia MC who was been making some noise on the last The Roots album ,"How I Got Over", and is even a part of The Money Making Jam Boys, a quartet consisting of Black Thought with three Roots affilliates. S.T.S. will release his debut album, "The Illusion", later this year and fans can expect cameos ffrom Black Thought and Yelawolf to name a few while producion will be handled by the likes of Ski Beatz, Alc, Will Power and The Knux.

The Money Making Jam Boys

The Money Making Jam Boys are a group consisting of lead MC Black Thought and several lesser known rappers that we've gotten to know through guest spots on various The Roots project; Dice Raw, STS, P.O.R.N. and Truck North. These guys have worked on a project together for a while now and although several BTS videos and such has surfaced this is the lead-off single from an upcoming mixtape hopefully dropping sooner than later. This record is produced by Khari Mateen who previously worked with Black Thought on The Roots tracks such as "Clock With No Hands", "Game Theory" and "Criminal". Link courtesy of @ 2dopeboyz.com.
