[Album] The 1978's - "People Of Today"

This was actually released back this Tuesday, but I've been quite busy living life so haven't had the chance to listen before but this album is incredible. Released by Mello Music Group, who keeps bringing the non-commercial but super dope vintage sounding underground hip-hop. The latest release from the label is the "new duo" 1978's album "People of Today", a jazz-infused headnod piece with brilliant relatable everyday struggle lyrics courtesy of producer Slimkat78 and Diamond District emcee yU. I was first introduced to Slimkat78 at the same time I first became aquainted with yU, as the former produced one of my absolute favorites of The District's debut album - "Off The Late Night". That really made me wonder when I would be able to hear a full album produced by Slimkat78, and hooking up with yU as The 1978's seems like a brilliant idea on paper, and from the tracks I've listened to so far it sounds just as good in its execution. You can stream the entire album for free via MMG's Bandcamp, where you can also purchase it; same with iTunes or UGHH for the CD or 2xLP set. Whatever you don't sleep!

[Album] HASSAAN MACKEY & KEV BROWN - "True Grit"

Damn, I swear there's almost too much sick music coming out right now, it's hard to find time to really dig into it all but this is one of those joints you just don't want to miss. I learned of the existence of a joint album between Kev Brown and Hasaan Mackey only a few days ago, and now we get the whole album stream. I've felt Kev Brown to be one of the more underrated producers around for some time now, and I banged Mackey's album with Apollo Brown "Daily Bread" a lot back in 2011. The record is out now on Ill Adrenaline Records, and as you can hear below it sounds official as hell. The instrumentals are being released on wax as well, nice work as always Ill Adrenaline! Support @ UGHHHHV, iTunes or your retailer of choice.

[EP] The 178:ers (yU & SlimKat) - P.O:.T. EP ('Acr t 1, 2, 3)

With Diamond District's sophomore album "March On Washington" just released, it simply doesn't stop here as I'm sure it won't take lon until Oddisee got a new project and now most recently the grup of yU and produer SlimKar's duo The 1978ers aned they just dropped a tree three tap EP on Mello Music Group on some real smooth shit. We all know yU is a real talented emcee but for me the real star of the show is SlimKid; I first heard him on "Off the Late Night" and was absolutely blown away by the heartfelt soul. By far one of my faves on that record, which is saying a lot considering Mr. Oddisee was the main producer of that album. Let's hope for a full The 1978:ers album on MMG in the furure but for now I'm happy with this EP - but who knows maybe I'll do a Lost Tapes compilation!

yU & SlimKat as THE 1978'ers - "People Of Today" / "1-9-7"

yU is of course one of the talented members of Diamond District, and on their absolutely excellent debut fellow Detroit artist and producer Slimkat provided one of the hottest songs on the entire album. Now yU and Slimkat has hooked up with Mello Music Group for a joint project called "People Of Today" which is soon about to drop. So far the duo has let loose of two singles and the jazzy boom bap aesthetics are in full efect, so be sure to check out the openening tracks "People of Today" and "One Nine" below along with the tracklist and stay tuned for further information.
