SLIMKID3 & DJ NU-MARK - "Bouillon" (Ft. Del & Murs)

DJ Nu-Mark's amazing "Broken Sunlight" single series and following album was one of the highlights of 2013 so the news that the super talented DJ/producer is joining forces with former Pharcyde alumi SlimKid3 for a full-length LP brought a big smile to my face. The album will be out this summer via Delicious Vinyl and seems to be self-titled and just like with the aforementioned Nu-Mark project, the album will first be broken down into a gang of beautifully designed and collectable 7" singles before the main event hit stores. This is definitely something you want to keep your eyes on, and don't just take my word for it - listen to the lead single "Bouillon" where the duo teams up with fellow West Coast legends Del and Murs for a real heavy hitter. TURN IT UP!!

DJ MARK LUV Mixtape Song [prod. by J DILLA] (2001)

I remember when I was really hunting the complete J Dilla discography; the ones I couldn't get on CD or vinyl I at least strived to find for download )so that I would be able to hear everything from my #1 musical hero. Eventually I had everything in one format or the other using guidelines like Stones Throw's official J Dilla discography, wikipedia, and much later Wajeed's Bling 47 site as well as random google searches and whatnot. I eventually managed to find  everything listed on those sites, except for one single joint that I couldn't find anywhere. The track in question was listed on Stones Throw and Wiki as a song by Subtitle with the title Mark Luv Mixtape song, released 2003 on a compilation called "Greatest Hit$$". Needless to say I never found neither the song nor the album, However, a while back I came across a YouTube rip of it that was so-so in quality, but at least I managed to hear it and it's a fucking crazy posse cut of West Coast emcees over a digitized progressive Dilla production very reminiscent of the sound he fucked with around the millenium shift (think Phat Kat, the original Frank-N-Dank records, "Welcome 2 Detroit").

Then a week or two ago I stumbled across a mixtape by DJ Mark Luv from 2001 entitled "Required Audio" that features a lot of underground bangers that were at hot at the moment. But as track #22 and the final track is an untitled song simply titled as the emcees who appear on it - and that is the Dilla produced banger that features verses from LMNO, Murs, Mykill Miers, PSC and Subtitle. This one's a real headbanger and definitely one of the rarer cuts in James Yaney's catalouge so don't sleep because this is one you don't want to miss! I know I didn't, considering I searched for years for a good quality rip of this (although it's from a mixtape, there's no drops and Mark Luv lets the whole song play without interruption - plus it's ripped in 320 kbps). Well, what can I say... TURN IT THE FUCK UP!!!

[MMG Comp] APOLLO BROWN / MURS + QUELLE CHRIS

As I reported earlier one of today's finest underground labels, Mello Music Group, is gearing up to release an album/compilation this month showcasing the majority of their finest roster. It turns out that MMG has decided to release two volumes simultaneously; splitting the two projects into one featuring more of an avant-garde route, while Volume 2 will focus on more boom bap heavy hardcore hip-hop shit. "Volume 1: Polysonic Flows" includes exclusive joints from the likes of L'Orange, Oddisee, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Quelle Chris, Mr. Lif, Castle, Has-Lo, yU, and more. "Volume 2: Today's Mathematics" is created around new cuts by heavy htiters such as Apollo Brown, Gensu Dean, Fredro Starr, Audible Doctor, Murs, Verbal Kent, Blacastan, 14KT, Wise Intelligent, Def Dee, Rapper Big Pooh, and others. Both collections will be released on January 28, so check back then for a full album stream right here @ The Lost Tapes. Until then you can pre-order both albums at iTunes (vol. 1) (Vol. 2), and check out the two lead singles from each isntallment below - the beautifully soul/boom bap mash-up that is Apollo Brown & Murs' "The Pain is Gone", and Quelle Chris'"Going Swell". Both sounding real good!

[Album] THE WHITE MANDINGOS - "Ghetto is Tryna Kill Me"

The White Mandingos is a recently formed trio featuring Murs on the mic, Bad Brains bassist Darryl Jenifer, and producer Sacha Jenkins. The sonic smash that is their debut LP "The Ghetto is Tryna Kill Me" creates a perfect melting pot of a wide range of musical influences, with the marriage of hardcore hip-hop and punk/rock at the forefront. Eclectic mixes like this are always risking coming off as forced and unauthentic, while watering down both genres it's supposed to represent.. The White Mandingos, however, doesn't fall in to that trap, instead bringing a new vibe that should resonate with fans of all three artist's previous works. Especially nice to hear is how the agressive production here really brings out the beast in Murs, just check him out on "Mandingo Rally" above. Check for "The Ghetto is Tryna Kill Me" in stores on June 11, or get your pre-orders on from Fat Beats. Already now you can preview the entire project below thanx to HHDX so TURN THAT MOTHERFUCKER UP!!!

[VIDEO] Murs & 9th Wonder - "Funeral For A Killer"

I remember getting a cassette of Murs and 9th Wonder's first collaboration together, "Murs 3:16: The 9th Edition", from one of my main men (what up Noiz) back in 2004 and playing that MC til' was unlistenable. Such a good album; the West Coast rhyming of Murs, and the soulful backdrops that North Catolina's finest 9th Wonder provided for the 10 track mini-album. Since then we've been getting four more collaborations between the two, and now it's time for the fifth and final installment; titled "The Final Adventure" which drops on November 13.

As a taste of what to come, the first single has just been revealed and carries the interesting title "Funeral For A Killer". The grip the video for the sick song is grim, and is directed by Hobo Stewart. If you're feeling this, make sure to mark November 13 in your calendars because both Murs and 9th still got it, to say the least.

[VIDEO] Fashawn & Murs - "Slash Gordon"

Wow, MURS & Fashawn's "This Generation" gonna be a threat to their competition in 2012. They are both from The West, but apart from that , and being emcees, they really don't share too many similarities, but together they diaplay a chemistry  that makes for great records. The full-length project drops on Duck Down Records on September 25 but til' then we can check out the duo's debut single "Slash Gordon" which is certified heat to say the least, produced by Beatnick & K-Salaam (who will also produce the entire project). "Slash Godon" is now also given a vieo, directed by Todd Angkkausen, who hooks up visuals that perfectly fit the forth-and-back style presented by these two fantastic rhyme slingers.

[Tracklist/Cover] Murs x Fashawn - "Our Generation"

Two of the best from the West will join forces for a collaborative project titled "This Generation", set for a September 25. Completely produced by Beatnick & K-Salaam and released via Duck Down, there's a lot pointing towards this being a superb album. I love both of these guy's music, though I must say that neither has managed to impress me that much with their respective recent releases. I have a great feeling about this one however!

Murs & Ski Beatz collaborative album, "Love & Rockets Vol. 1: The Transformation", is available now and it's a pretty damn dope listen. The new single features additional solid verses from AB-Soul and OC, who once again proves how he's not to be fucked with and never to be counted out. Murs + Rasheed Chappel Videos

Murs is someone I used to check for alot several years ago but lost track of, but this track knocks! Judging by this, his forthcoming collaboration album with Ski Beatz, "Love & Rockets Volume I: Declaration", will definitely be worth checking for. The track is called "316 Ways".

Rasheed Chappell is the illest debuting artist of 2011 if you ask me, at least up to this point and I'm doubtful someone will be able to break that during the next three months. Fully produced by DJ Kenny Dope, "Future Before Nostalgia", is still heavy in rotation!

Tracklist for Murs / Ski Beatz LP

I'm not really feeling the cover but MURS always been an interesting emcee to me although I admit to not checking too much for him since the second album with 9th Wonder. It will be interesting to hear him rock an entire album with Ski Beatz who really managed to reinvent his career the last couple of years; quite impressive though I'm a bigger fan of his older work. "24 Hour Karate School Part II" is out now too btw for those who's into Ski. The album with Murs will be out in stores on October 11 and is called "Love & Rockets Vol. 1: Transformation".
