Strong Arm Steady's Krondon hooks up with fellow Strong Arm Steady member Mitchy Slick slick for this smooth plea for the pligt of Freddie Gibbs and his recent troubles with the law. As is only fitting the joint is produced by Madlib who of course produced the entirey of Gibb's best album, "Pinata", but also the illest Strong Arm joint in "In Search Of Stoney Jackson". [Comp] FREDDIE GIBBS - "Volume One: The Guest Spots"

Last week I saw Freddie Gibbs perform  a blazing 90 minutes set ar KB (Kulturbolaget), Malmö, Sweden. No hype-man, only a DJ at the back and his mic presence was nothing short of incredible. A true emcee if I ever saw one - with no bling and other stuff distracting from the music Gibbs gave his best performing in only jeans and a white Tee, and the setlist was absolutely terrific. The Gary gangster performed outsanding versions of some of his best tracks from "Pianta","ESGN", "Shadow Of A Doubt", "The Miseducation..." and some of his iller guest spots. Since I am, even in this day and age, an album guy, I didn't truly get into Gangsta Gibbs unti his modern day classic "Pinata" (2012) with Madlib. While Gibbs gruff voice and gangster mannerism and thuglife boasting isn't really nothing new, he does it with same conviction as 2Pac and legends of that stature and there's never a case in which you don't believe him. Then you enter his current muical partner Madlib which he did the entire "Pinata" album with and the marriage between 'Lib's sunny soulful, chopped up sample goodies has never been attacked by an emcee in such a manner before - making "Pianata" a truly original album that will be regarded as a classic a couple of years from now. 

The night included material from his early mixtapes, his mini-albms, his two real LP:s and then some, and through the years Gangsta Gibbs has popped up everywhere as an impeccable guest features on some hard hitting beats by the likes of Alchemist, Just Blaze, Statik Selektah, Madlib (including the cherished B-sides from the "Pinata" LP) and more. There's no denying that Gangsta Gibbs is one of the more interesting and original artist to emerge out of this decade, having released an album with Madlib that's about as dope as "Madvillain"was in 2004. Gibbs is also one of the rare breeds who's at home with a multitude of different styles - he can get busy over soulful, obscure sampe chops, banging West Coast bangers, NY bom bap type beats, Trap beats and then some. I can't think of any other artists who can handle that entire range of modern hip-hop with that kind of authority - another aspect that makes him one of the greatest doing ir right now. And this live concert was ample proof that Gibbs is not only a great studio artist but an all-around great artist, both on and off stage.

Following the combination of "Pianata" and this outstanding concerts there was no doubt i my mind that there was time for a Freddie Gibbs compilation here at The Lost  Tapes, something I've been meaning for a long time anyway. This 20 tracks compilation mainly focuses on Gibb's guest spots, a few B-sides and remixes from the Madlib sessions, as well as the single "Freddie Soprano" which is just too dope to sleep on. It's very likely you'll find a Volume 2 here @ The Tapes in a couple of week or so, but this is the real deal so turn out, tune in and DROP OUT.... and don't forget to TURN IT wUP!!

Freddie Gibbs and Madlib are a match made in heaven, reminiscent of a time when one DJ/producer and one MC had that incredible chemistry and breathed the same musical oxygen that made them stand way above the rest of the Hip Hop crowd. Their "Pinata" album is one of Madlib's best albums yet, and in my humble opinion without a doubt Gibbs best album yet - it's not even close. So as much as I absolutely loved what Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar did to 'Lib's beat on their lyrical exercise "No More Parties in L.A." earlier this year, it was only a question in time before Gibbs would turn the same song into a full-blown Madlib collaboration and switching the theme to its new title - "Cocaine Parties in L.A.". For vinyl collectors the vocal and instrumental (Kanye never releases instrumentals of his projects either so that's a good look) via Rappcats so as they say, HURRY UP AND BUY!

While I am a fan of Kanye West you won't see any posts of his music on here as I don't feel that's what The Lost Tapes are about. However the always on point Gangsta Gibbs who produced not only one of the best LP:s of 2014 with his Madlib collaboration "Pinata", but one of the best LP:s of the decade, is definitely an emcee that I gladly spread the word on. Like I said in my review of that project, Gibbs has always been a grippng spitter to my ears but much of the beats he has picked for his solo projects has not really been up my alley which made the Madlib collabo all the more potent to my ears. So when he hijacked the new 'Lib produced Kanye West single "No More Parties in LA", appropatiely renamed "Cocaine Parties in LA", you know this is something to rejoice about. Let's just hope we'll see a follow-up to "Pinata" sooner or later. It appears the song has been taken down from Gibbs official Soundcloud so if you haven't heard it yet be sure to press play ASAP as it might be taken down from YouTube as well any day.

FREDDIE GIBBS x BLACK THOUGHT - "Extradite"

Brand new single from Freddie Gibbs' upcoming album "Shadow Of A Doubt", available on November 20, which features the always incredible Black Thought. These guys makes for a really strong lyrical back and forth here, and as they are getting in over a Nautilus sample hooked up by Mikhail and co-produced by Sid "Speakerbomb" Miller. [Album] ALCHEMIST x OH NO - "Welcome To Los Santos"

The Grand Theft Auto series has always prouded themeselves on excellent soundtracks to accompany the gaming experience. For GTA V, which drops tomorrow for PC, they are taking it one step further as the Gangrene brothers Oh No and Alchemist has been left fully in charge to produce the original soundtrack. The game has been out on various consoles since 2013 which has allowed ALC and Oh to really soak in the atmosphere of the adventure that is "GTA V - Welcome to Los Santos". The fourteen tracks deep album features new music by Freddie Gibbs, Action Bronson, MC Eiht, Danny Brown, Killer Mike, AB-Soul, Curren$y, Kokane, and many more. But don't expect a straight up hip-hop album, as the two Ayahuasca loving producers draws inspiration from a wide range of different styles and sounds to create something totally unique. It's definitely a dope listen though, so don't sleep on this one! You can stream the entire album via the YouTube playlist up top and NPR or purchase the digital download from iTunes if you want to pay your dues.

GANGRENE - "Play It Cool"

Alchemist and Oh No's "Play it Cool" is a collaboration with Earl Sweatshirt and Samuel T. Harring. and is the first single from Gangrene's upcoming LP "Welcome to Los Santos". The GTA V affiliated soundtrack will be released on CD, digital and vinyl as a joint venture between Mass Appeal Records and Rockstar Games on April 21. A week before that fans will be able to hear much of the new music within the game which drops April 14. Sounds pretty damn cool:

Freddie Gibbs and Madlib is obviously not done with the "Pinata" album just yet, and who knows maybe we'll get a new project in a near future too. You heard the "Knicks Remix" w. Action Bronson, Joey Boada$$ and Ransom before, and now you can check out the B-Side from the new Madlibs Invazion EP. The EP also features instrumentals of both songs and 2-3 exclusive Beeat Konducta intermission beats. AWAR Ft. FREDDIE GIBBS - "Wake Up Call"

AWAR is planning to follow-up his hevily slept-on 2012 album "The Laws Of Nature" with another project due out this year. And just like the preceding LP the first single from "The Winning Team", out next Tuesday. "Wake Up Call" features Freddie Gibbs and is produced by Vanderslice who also handles production on the entirety of the LP.

BUCKSHOT & P-MONEY - "Just Money"

Duck Down and Bucktown legend Buckshot joins forces with New Zealand producer P-Money for a full-length project entitled "Backpack Travels". Judging by the new single "Just Money" (above, also featuring Raz Fresco) and the earlier "Flute". this is taking it back to the golden era with knocking beats, heavy bottom, tight cuts, well written rhymes and soul samples. The album is available on June 24, but just a few weeks ago P-Money dropped his own producer project "Gratitude" which beside Buckshot also features legends like M.O.P., Havoc, Freddie Gibbs, Roc Marciano, Talib Kweli, Skyzoo, and more. STATIK SELEKTAH Ft. Freddie Gibbs & Joey Bada$$ - "Carry On"

A new year means another new dope Statik Selektah project, and in fact I personal feel that last year's "Extended Play" ranks amongst his two finest albums under his own name. This hopefully means that the super DJ/prooducer's upcoming album coming August 19 via Duck Down Records lives up the hype of that previous record. The first single "Carry On" featuring Freddie Gibbs and Joey Bada$$ definitely is a fine example of laid-back, jazzy boom bap with smacking street lyricism especially from Gibbs. Stay tuned for more info on the album as time progresses.

[Video] GIBBS x MADLIB - "Deeper"

I haven't been able to update the last few days so the first few posts coming at you have been making their round on the internet already but is definitely something to sleep on so as I often say in these situations - better late than never (that goes for a bunch of PM:s to me that i'll answer in the next couple of days. "Deeper" was one of the many songs from MadGibbs "Pinata" album released prior to the release but the beautiful lush string-accompaniemnet by 'Lib and Gibbs ghetto love story still make this one amongst my absolute favorites of the LP. On my first spins of the project I wasn't exactly as blown away that I had hoped by it, but upon repeated listenings "Pinata" is actually a superb release by all means. Check out the Jonathan Schwartz produced single up top and order the vinyl from RappCats or the digital @ iTunes.

FREDDIE GIBBS & MADLIB - "Shame" [BBNG Remix]

For those of you not familiar with BadBadNotGood they are a contemporary jazz trio that often incorporates a lot of modern, dope hip-hop vibe to their music. I first became aware of them, in a very positive way, through their production for Wu-Tang Clan on RZA's "The Man With The Iron Fists". While this song is a few days old, it's news to me and if I have missed it, I'm sure a lot of others has done so as well.. It's an official remix of the Madlib / Freddie Gibbs single "Shame", approved by both the original emcee and producer. If you haven't heard it yet, enjoy, if you have heard it before, why not revisit it again because this is a fresh take of one of the year's best.

[Album] MADGIBBS - "[Cocaine] Pinata"

I don't know how many times I've stated over the last six months that Freddie Gibbs and Madlib's collaborative one MC/one DJ full-length "Cocaine Pinata" that is now finally available to the public. The reason why I've held this in such a high regard even before it was even out is based on several things - the incredible chemistry heard on the several independent singles released leading up to the official release which is now upon us. Another important factor for me is to finally be able to hear Gibbs, who I consider one of the strongest street spitters operating now, finally getting a whole batch of  smoked out underground West Coast bangers whereas imo most of his previous projects has been quite unbalanced. The CD version of the album (which now officially goes by just "Pinata") on Madlib Invazion this Tuesday, while the 2xLP set is slated for a Tuesday releease.

A bit unfortunately the album leaked almost a week before the official release date; I of course buy most of the 2xLP sets that I really dig no matter if I heard them before but that's not the case for everyone. Anyway, I've been able to bang this quite a bit, and its not only a very dope album on first listen but a real grower as well. Cuts like the majority of the singles ("Deeper", "Harrold's", "Shame", "Thuggin'" all appears). But considering all tracks were recorded for this project, and it does feature 17 tracks all-in-all and clocking in at 60 minutes,, this is definitely one to sleep on and that vinyl release will definitely get my money. To be perfectly honest this is by far Gibbs finest full-length offering yet in my huble opinion and the chemisty between producer/MC is absolutely terrific. I really hope they will continue their musical relationship!

Pretty uch every beat and rhyme trully compiments each other extremely well (but hey what do you expect). If you're feeling the music as much as me this could turn out to be an amazing group just like MF Grimm & Drasar Monumental is a group these days (read more about that in my extensive Lost Tapes interview with 'em). It's a truly dope front-to-back listen - well there's a few pointless skits. The album ín both formats are available @0 FatBeats, so what you're waiting for? If it's to hear the project before you spend the cash on  this dope album - you can now hear it in full thanks to the Spotify upload. I don't approve of all the guests here, but it's nice to hear BJ The Cicago Kid, Raekwon, Danny Brown and especially Scarface over Madlib beats so just that is worthwhile listening of course to say the least. It's not entirely perfect but Check it out below and if you don't have Spotify - DON'T SLEEP and yo, TURN IT UP too!!

FREDDIE GIBBS / MADLIB - "Robes" (Ft. Earl Sweatshirt & Domo)

Although only a radio rip as of now, the release of Freddie Gibbs & Madlib's eight official collaboration leading up to the much-anticipated "Cocaine Pinata" has now landed, and is another strong cut proving their incredible chemistry together. A new leak is fitting as the album has now been given an official release date of March 18 and will be delivered by Madlib Invazion. "Roses" was recently premiered on the Benji B's show on UK channel BBC Radio 1. This is another fine cut, and my high hopes for this album is as strong as ever or as Gibbs describes it "a Gangster blaxploatiation film on wax". We still wait for the CDQ, not to mention the full album, but what the hell - TURN IT UP!!

FREDDIE GIBBS - "Thug Til' It's Over" [prod. Cookin' Soul]

There's no question that Freddie Gibbs is one of the most interesting and skilled lyrical emcees of our day, and whenever he jumps on the right beat true wonders happen. The release date of his Madlib vehicle "Cocaine Pinata" is coming closer, which I'm willing to bet a lot of money will be his finest Project yet if anyone's interested. In the meantime Gangsta Gibbs drops a loose single produced by the soul brothers known as Cookin' Soul for a very smooth, soulful banger with an addictive guitar sample and Freddie's usual strong delivery and well-written lyrics. ALC & DOMO'S "NO IDOLS" Gets Vinyl Release!

Just as Dilated Peoples' ALC produced "Right & Exact" started blasting through my speakers, I stumbled across the cool news that Alchemist and Domo Genesis' "No Idols" is given a limited vinyl run. The album was originally released exclusively as a free digital download, and was instantly acclaimed by listeners. ALC's production on these 11 tracks is definitely some of his finest more recent material. The numbers of time I've listened to this speaks volumes to that considering I don't like Domo Genesis at all. Luckily, Action Bronson pops up two times, Earl Sweatshirt has three verses and the joint with Freddie Gibbs and Prodigy is straight up unbelivable! The vinyl pressing is limited to 1000 hand numbered copies, is released by Alchemist, and includes all the music found on the original release. "Pinata" is still some time away (was it February or March, can't really remember right now), but as long as they keep pumping out hot music like they've been doing for the last 1.5 years I'm very happy. It's the best Gibbs material I've heard, sure he's a fantastic emcees but I gotta admit that many of the beats he rocks over isn't really my style. But when both Gibbs and Mad seem to drag the best out of eachother, the resulting music is some of the best singles releases this year and late 2012. Recently we heard the absolutely excellent "Deeper", and now we are treated to the B-side of that EP and it's another sure shit - making sure these guy's chemistry is really something else. Called "Harolds" and if you have ripped these tracks, got them on wax, etc, you should do like me and make a compilation of all their released music so far as I did which gives great insight into what this album will actually sound like! Make sure to cop the EP straight from RappCats shop while it's still available!

Freddie Gibbs & Madlib - "Deeper"

Before Madlib & Freddie Gibbs drops one of the most anticipated hip-hop albums in a long time, they unleash another EP of the purest hip-hop available. The A-side is called "Deeper" and features Gangsta Gibbs doing what he does best over a crazily chopped Madlib monster and the result is just as dope as everything we previously heard from this team. Word right now is that the long player, called "Pianata", is wrapped up as far as recording goes and packs features from Raekwon, Scarface, Joey Bada$$, Earl Sweatshirt, Danny Brown, BJ The Chicago Kid and more and set for a February 4 release.
