[Documentary] DUDLEY PERKINS - "Interplanetary Peace Talks" (2007)

If you're a fan of either the original Stones Throw sound that was dominated by the vibe of Madlib, Lootpack and Oh No or the more recent SomeOthaShip releases by Georgia Anne Muldrow and the roster you are well aware of the original artist Dudley Perkins. Having released several excellent EP:s and albums both under his birth name and as Declaime, often in full-length collaborations with Madlib, Oh No, Kan Kick or his life partner and musical soul mate Georgia Anne Muldrow, Perkins is responsible for laods of thought provoking yet hard hitting music that borders somewhere between filthy hip-hop, progressive funk and Soul music. Growing up in Oxnard and quickly finding a deep interest in music he soon became a member of the original C.D.P. Crew alongside Lootpack, Oh No and Kan Kick his evolution on record has been one hell of an interesting ride to follow. In 2003 he released what to me still stands as his finest LP, the Madlib produced "A Lil' Light", which is pretty much a front-to-back classic with outstanding songs like "Momma", "Fallin'", "Solitude" and "Flowers".

Somewhere around 2006 when he was gearing up for his second full-length collaboration with 'Lib ("Expressions 2012 A.D.") A.J. Callomay and Paul Dang directed this 50 minutes deep documentary on Declaime for Xylophone Films and SomeOthaShip productions. This interesting film gives us a look into Dudley Perkins, the man and the artist, as he discusses his views on life, spirituality, cooking healthy, as well as musical ancedotes, live clips and interview excerpts with artists in his immediate circle. If you're a fan of the man be sure to watch this excellent documentary as it is very different from your standard artist biography, and if you're not too familiar with the man and his music be sure to head over to the official SomeOthaShip Bandcamp where you can stream and purchase all releases from both Perkins and Georgia Anne Muldrow.

GEORGIA ANNE MULDROW - "oLIGARCHY sUCKS!"

To me Georgia Anne Muldrow is by far one of the most interesting female emcees/singers and producers, to me she's something of a spiritual sister of Erykah Badu who is my all time favorite neo soul artists (I don't like that label but just so you know what I'm saying). What I love about them both is that they have no fear of experimenting, they both speak about real shit whether it be spiritual or political topics, and they are great producers in their own right. I'm always hyped to hear new music from these two; Badu more so, but Muldrow is deifnitely someone to sleep on!

I was meant to post this a while back but it just slipped my mind, though I got this in the mail probably at least a week ago. Since I hadn't had the time to listen to it before it got pushed off, but better late than never and since I haven't seen this on as many sites you would expect I'm sure a lot of people have missed out on this. "oLIGARCHY sUCKS!" is a digital instrumental beat session released for free by G.A. Muldrow through her Bandcmap page. The thirteen track session features some way out there beat, that never loses it's hip-hop touch and would take some balls for emcees to rhyme over due to their experimenal nature. But the bottom line is that the majority of it is GOOD music, and you can preview the entire album for free streaming below or purchase the project for a HQ digital download via the Bandcamp page. (Close to) no vocals just 15 tracks of deep, funk, soul and experimental hip-hop with a lot of head nod factor this is a real good look - we definitely need more females on the production tip; just check the powerful drum programming on "Baroque Dirty Thing", the electronic atmosphere perpetrated by "Shobby Saves", or the jazz vibes (complete with african drums, vibraphones and a progressive yet muted basslines) of the album closer which also features a welcome apperance by our girl on the mic. Deifnitely check it out and support if you dig (for 10 USD you get the album in the quality of your choice, for 25 USD you get a limited T-shirt and the digital album).

[Video] GEORGIA ANNE MULDROW - "Pop Iconz II"

Soul princess (only held back from the throne by Erykah Badu at the moment) has an unbelivable work ethic. It's not a question of quantity over quality because Muldrow most of the times manages to give fans both. Her latest single is a short but very powerful funk-soul jam entitled "Pop Iconz", produced by Chris Keys and with a video directed by Chuck N.L.V. I'm not sure where this will turn up but the YT clip is posted via Mello Music Group's official channel. Maybe a Muldrow / Chris Keys Project in the works? I wouldn't complain!

DUDLEY PERKINS Ft. PERCEE P - "Hearing Test"

Dudley Perkins has always interested me with his unorthodox style of funky hip-hop infleunced soul. Next week the poetical wordsmith, also known as Declaime, is releasing his first solo album in over four years and with the singles this is shaping up lovely. We've got the Georgia Anne Muldrow produced "Stokley's Cafe", the reunion with the one and only Madlib on "State Of Emergency" and early associate KanKick's Foot Surgery". While all of these three cuts have been solo ventures, the new single is one of the tracks I looked forward to the most reading about the upcoming album; the collaboration with veteran BX super rhymer Percee P. The song is called "Hearing Test" and features both Percee and Dudley going HARD over a suitable rugged hip-hop beat, complete with cuts, again laced by G.A. Muldrow. DON'T SLEEP on this one, as it's both up for free streaming and download! The Mello Music Group LP "Dudley Storkins" lands in stores on both wax, CD and digital on November 29.

[Video] DUDLEY PERKINS - "Stokley's Cafe"

Psychadelic soul crooner Dudley Perkins is about to bring out his first solo release in several years, building on the legacy of classic Stones Throw releases with Madlib like "A Lil' Light" and "Expressions (2012 A.U.)". The new album is called "Dr. Stokley" and will feature Dudley's traditional unorthodox vocal styles over production by Madlib ("State of Emergency"), Georgia Anne Muldrow ("Stokley's Cafe" which you see above), and frequent collaborator KanKick. Look out for the LP which drops on Black Friday, and get ready to hear a new guest verse by Percee P too!

Dudley Perkins - "Foot Surgery"

The eclectic soul/funk/hip-hop child Dudley Perkins (a/k/a Declaime) is about to hit us with another ill solo disc, following his excursions into his and Georgia Anne Muldrow's commonly shared world with the G&D projects. Dudley Perkins has a lot of incredible albums under his name, most notably his three Madlib produced records - "IllMindMuzik EP", "A Lil' Light" and "Excursions 2012". His 1998 debut disc was another banger, where the production was divided between Madlib and KanKick. For "Dr. Stokley" who hits stores and internet retailers via Mello Music Group on November 29. The first two promising singles takes it back to the foundation, as they are produced by Madlib ("State of Emergency") and KanKick ("Foot Surgery", streaming below via Soundcloud). The other announced producer for the project is Georgia Anne Muldrow, and together with the press releases closing statement  that "this is Dudley at his eccentric best, fiery and passionate, killin' emcees with that heavy fOnk straight from the soul." Pre-order the album @ MMG i_ your choice of CD, wax or iTunes for digital

G.A. Muldrow - "Akosua"

Save for her soul sister Erykah Badu, no soul/funk musician have the drive and passion of Gerogia Anne Muldrow. Running her own label with husband Dudley Perkins, writing, performing and producing all of her music and making records that undoubtedly will stand the test of the time, Muldrow has become a household name in just a few years. As part of Mello Music Group's limited 7" series, the West Coast songs queen have created two beautiful, self-produced songs in "Akosua" and "In My Heart". [ALBUM] Georgia Anne Muldrow x DJ Romes - "The Blackhouse"

While Erykah Badu is still the queen of modern soul, Geogia Anne Muldrow is definitely the princess. Her 2012 album with Madlib "Seeds" was an exceptional project, and as usual she's not about to slow down any time soon. Her latest project is a collaboration with the always amazing DJ Romes for a duo called The Blackhouse. Released via Mello Music Group the album is now available in both physical and digital format, and you can stream the entire project below, including the second single "Somali" (the first one was "fOnkie Journey"). Muldrow on beats and vocals, Romes on cuts, scratches and the mixes.
