[EP] SCRAM JONES - "Dead Give Away"

When I first started noticing the name Scram Jones popping up in album credits, I gotta admit I was rarely especially impressed by the man's work. However, as the years has gone on the guy have really come into his own and produced some real hard bangers that's straight off the hook. His latest project is an eight track EP that's filled with nothing but slamming beats and a whole lot of impressive scratches. "Dead Give Away: The EP" features mostly Scram rhyming over his own beats (and yeah, he should mainly stick to crafting instrumentals), but we do get a much welcome guest verse by Raekwon The Chef and Saigon. It's a lil' late but be sure to not sleep on this Halloween themed hip-hop journey, cuz it's fucking ill!

[Mixtape] RAEKWON & SCRAM JONES - "Chef Vs. Beast"

As promised, Raekwon and Scram Jones has collected their favorites among their many collaborations on this free mixtape entitled "The Chef vs. The Beast". Scram and Rae make a fine combination so even though the dedicated follower will be familiar with the majority of the material, this is a nice collection to vibe out to indeed. Included are also the two previously unreleased cuts, "Restaurant" and "Footprints of Osama" and I'm pretty sure I never heard the collaboration with CL Smooth, Sauce Money & Big Bee called "Silk" before.

Raekwon x Scram Jones - "Restaurant"

The Chef is curiously missing from PNC's Ghostface's "12 Reasons to Die" considering the amount of Wu-Generals doing cameos, but on the other hand Rae's been keeping himself real busy with various projects for several years now. The latest to add to the list is a collaborative mixtape with Scram Jones, who produced 4-5 really stellar joints on "Cuban Linx... Pt. II" beside all the loose joints they have cooked up together. The mixtape is titled "The Beast: The Best of Raekwon & Scram Jones" and drops tomorrow so check back here then. Already today, we are treated to a little sneak peak as the duo lets loose of the previously unreleased collaboration "Restaurant". Thanks to NahRight.

Free Mixtape: SCRAM JONES

Scram Jones older work rarely stood out to me and I still thought he was a so-so producer even as he started making a name for himself. My mind started changed when I heard his four contributions to Rae's recent opus, "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx... Pt. II" where he provided a string of joints for The Chef that was as good as the beats done by MoSS, True Master, Eric Sermon and Alechmist. I didn't really know he also rhymed though; my personal opinion is that in most cases producers should stick with his SP's and MPC's considering that there's not many that can handle both succesfuly. There's of course a few notable exceptions to this rule (early RZA, Large Professor, KRS-One, Diamond D, Large Professor, Grand Puba, Q-Tip and even True Master to name some.)

"The Hat Trick" hit the net today as a free digital download, so that should at least guarantee a listen to see if it's worth for Scram to go solo. There's no individual production credits attached to the tracklist but according to several sources outside proucers working on the album were Gangrene (Alchemist and Oh No), Vin the Chin, Sixth Sense, Scott Blanco and Blickstreet. I'm all for new Alchemist and Oh No beats but cosidering that Scram is a nice producer in his own right it makes me wonder why he would need Vin the Chin, Blickstreet and Scott Blanco... Oh well, let's see how this works out in reality. Anoter thing that comes to mind; the Gangrene collaboration "How to Drown A Fish" (which was a early sneek peak as it leaked late last year), I wonder if that's one of The Chemist's or Oh No's production which literally would make it a new Gangrene song.
