I was dissapointed to say the least when it was revealed that the long-awaited collaboration between New York legendary emcees Smif-N-Wessun and the super producer Pete Rock, or Soul Brother #1 if you will or even Tha Cholcate Boy Wunda., This was quite suprising and depressing to see and goss to show how the majoiry of "hip-hop heads" don't give a fuck about banging music these days. The album is absolute fire and if it would've been released in the late '90s/early 00's it would've been getting the props it rightfully deserves. I would love to hear another collabo between the trio but consiering the low sales, I doubt we'll ever hear anything new from them again. That being said, it is a very good thing that they are still promoting the album although it's a couple of months down the road one.
The lastest promotional tool for "Monumental" is this cool black-and-white video for one of the stand-out moments of the LP, "Roses", which been one of my favorites since the first listen and still holds that position. The vocal samples, the lyrics and delivery of the Cocoa Brovaz and Pete's impeccable productions make a for a severely dope cut and besides having S-N-W tradding bars you'll also catch a cool hook from Philaelphia's own Freeway. Like the majority of this album, it is a clear winner - I'll go as far as saying this is in the top 3 of best albums released this year. When older rappers and producers drops new projects, and collaborations in particular, it can turn out horrendous but at times it comes of as simply amazing and you really hear a chemistry between the producer/MC's. If you haven't picked up the album yet, please do. You'll find online links to where to order from if you check my extensive "Monumental" review. Let it bang and if you like what you'rea hearing, please pick up your own copy this one really deserves it. Enjoy the visuals aboe andd go and place an order for the 2xLP set if you want some quality music. TURN IT UP!!
